The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways.
Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar.
We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.
If you're going to the 4:30 Wisconsin fan gathering at Brothers Bar and Grill downtown, there's a parking deck on Fraser Street a block away (you won't find a spot downtown).
Still crazy at $225 a night, but here's an event rental five minutes from campus: https://pennstate.craigslist.org/vac/d/university-park-penn-state-nittany/7912760936.html
Back when they first announced that a new 6000-seat hockey arena was being built, I assumed the plans would include a parking deck for a crowd like that, but nope, and that's been my biggest gripe since the arena was built.
Tru by Hilton in Bellefonte (about 15 minutes from campus) is showing $500something for two nights, which is still insane. That's how it goes around here, thanks to the football crowd who is more than happy to come to town and throw money around.
That's probably accurate - when they hosted the Frozen Four in 2022 (and Penn State wasn't playing), they had just over 3,600 show up for the semifinals, but for the championship game only 2,008 showed up.
Being sixth in average attendance isn't an accomplishment - it's just better than 39 other teams, so "not high enough" attendance isn't exclusively a Penn State thing.
According to USCHO (https://www.uscho.com/stats/attendance/division-i-women), Penn State's average crowd is #6 out of the 45 D-1 women's hockey teams. "No fan base" isn't a very good dig.
They've only used one side of the arena for women's hockey since the arena first opened - same as many others do, because it makes $en$e to them: fewer ushers, fewer security, fewer janitorial staff, etc etc. And obviously the atmosphere on TV/streaming looks better, but that's secondary.
Wow, how insightful - Penn State (like any other non-WCHA team you could've named) would have their hands full with Wisconsin and Ohio State. That must have taken a lot of research and analysis on your part. But "slip into oblivion"? Against who...Mankato? St. Cloud? Bemidji? St Thomas?

In game one of their AHA semifinal series, Penn State demolished Syracuse by a score of 7-0. All three Penn State Olympians scored - Tessa Janecke (hat trick), Nicole Hall, and Matilde Fantin - with Mya Vaslet and Abby Stonehouse netting the other two. Katie DeSa got her gajillionth shutout of...
