Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

There is some thinking that Ross Campbell could also come this season, but no confirmation there.

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Neutral Zone had some glowing scouting reports on him before he played college hockey. LINK These are obviously older now but surprising that his offensive game has been non-existent.

UNH Hockey Off Season Thread 2026

Trudeau was a very mercurial player when he was at Maine. Spent most of the time buried in fourth line purgatory and honestly needed a fresh start. I know he was a Gendron recruit so not sure if Barr was okay with him leaving to bring in his own guys, but he's definitely the biggest player who...

Divver working overtime today. Really sweet!

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Based on what I'm seeing so far, I'd feel pretty comfortable with: Voronin | Scott | Russell Klimpke | Lipinski | Parks Scholle | Fowler | Fleece Gerrior | Komarov | Pichette Langlois | Peterson Lafton | Bales Usereau | Siciliano (or preferably a natural RHD) Boija Wickström Stumer Fowler...

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Yep can't just ignore the high pedigree guys, so it'll be up to Barr/staff to do their due diligence when it comes to assessing character. Obviously having more time to scout these CHL guys will make that process easier for them going forward too.

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Bales is pretty versatile and played both sides of the ice so given how thin the right side, I'd expect him to play there. That will allow Lafton to stay on the left side, where he played all season for Dubuque.

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Bales wasn't noticeable because he's mostly a defensive d-man. Which is probably a good sign honestly...

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

It reads a lot like Barr saying "there has never been a larger talent pool for Maine to pull from" and he can cut bait on the malcontents that don't fit. With how frantic things got with the CHL players last year, it seems like Barr got a trial by fire and had to learn some hard lessons about...

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

If Lipinski sticks around (which it looks like he might) and plays more to his size he could be the biggest surprise on the team next year. The opportunity is there for him to get top-6 minutes and with his skills in the dot (top-5 nationally last year) he should see ice time in all situations...

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

I had mentioned back in early March that he was headed for hip surgery this offseason. Sounded like surgery would help, but from what I heard his hip issues go deeper and might be something he has to manage for his whole playing career which is unfortunate. Hopefully it doesn't diminish his...

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

I think at this point it's mostly player agents reaching out to programs with more of a wink-wink-nod-nod "we'll come if you have a spot open" kind of handshake agreement until they can actually enter.

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Idk if Jack Stockfish or Barrett Hall are on our radar but one of them would be nice to have down the middle, at least for one season.

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Sounds like Murls was spot on as Petter Wickström Stumer is coming in from Canisius.

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

He was legitimately injured which is why he didn't play the rest of the way. If he was getting close to a return I'm sure a practice scrap probably didn't help his case. The talent is undeniable with him which is likely why he's going to be one of the better players that hits the portal this...

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

No but there was a rumored scrap at practice between Poirier and Lipinski. Not sure if that factored into things at all but I don't believe JP played at all after that.

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

There was an article on EP a couple days ago that mentioned that only a few players got more than $100K in college hockey this season. If that's accurate people seem to be overestimating how much money is getting thrown around to these players. Poirier will definitely get a pay bump going to the...

Poirier hitting the portal, per McMahon.

Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

I think Anderson gets pushed to 2027, but I can see Voronin, Calvert, McKinnon, Campbell, Fleece, and Siciliano all making it here this year. Find some portal additions down the middle and maybe a couple to round out the D and I think it'll shape up to be a solid class.
