Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2026-27

Apart from saying it means MacIntosh isn't coming back, tell me how this announcement is good for women's hockey?

Can't they find an AD who will maintain football mediocrity - the only realistic goal - and allow other sports to proceed unimpeded?

I use to think the term "appointed" referred to jobs in government and royalty. Seems like it has been bumped down a notch to AD and coaches. I guess the AD does have the keys to the castle. Good luck, hopefully he doesn't screw it up to bad.

I'm all for benign neglect especially if it involves no further "improvements" to the fan experience at LaBahn. We know what a good experience is. Supervision by the front office only makes it worse.
I don't think there has ever been an improvement to the fan experience at Labahn since it was built. They've managed to screw some stuff up instead.

...hopefully he doesn't screw it up to bad.
Oh, he'll screw things up badly. But he'll only be measured on how badly he screws up the football team. It might be time for Barry to retire, retire and stop playing the wizard behind the curtain. Eventually, people - other than him - are going to have to figure things out. They won't as long as he's lurking in the background.

Barry was not on the search committee, which I found interesting. I listened to the new dude do an interview on ESPN Madison today and he said he would lean into Barry. Barry does know how to smooze people, but he doesn't know jack about financing college sports in today's age. He could be a good source for insight and the new guy can lean on his experiences at Texas for the money thing. He did say many times that winning is all that is really needed, then the money people will step up to support the program. What I don't like though is people who will only support a winner financially, when they could be part of the solution as to why they are not winning, i.e. lack of $$. Fickell has not shown the competency as a coach to gain one's trust that they are in the right direction either. Thankfully the women's hockey team at the moment is in a good spot in regards to facilities goes. If they were playing in a dump, we'd be screwed like those other people who spend all their money on football. A year ago MJ was resistive to allowing outside money into the program. I wonder if he has changed his view over the last year? He's still winning on the ice and the recruiting trail (except supposedly on Jane Daley), so he doesn't have an immediate need to embrace it, but I do hope he's looking forward. I'm curious if Robert has any insight as to outside money's impact on college volleyball.

It's not to the football levels, by any means. And the more "top tier" the school/team is with regard to success om the court and in the stands, the more money there is available. But it is certainly an "issue" that helps drive recruiting and transfers, etc. Likely that Texas and Nebraska in particular have more NIL money around their programs than UW has, but UW certainly must have more than many others. Remember that last year's shocking transfer by Una Vajagic happened primarily because some agent convinced Una that Wisconsin's highly rated incoming freshmen were getting more $$ than she was - which head coach Kelly Sheffield strenuously denied.

(I'm sure BuckyB can give us a much more detailed rundown of the issue. LOL)

Lauren Johnson from union college transfers.. she only played 19 games last year and 2 assists? Will be in her third year… she is from Wisconsin so guessing she is a walk on who will have limited time.

Speaking of fan experience, remember the days when we would get a player and stat sheet for each game? Just a piece of paper, but it had all the team and player stats up to that point in the year. And remember the refrigerator magnets with the schedule? I don't actually miss those but I do miss the stat sheet. I was told that all that information is available in the app, but it isn't--at least not in that easy to access package (especially for the visiting team) and besides, my phone battery isn't big enough to do all the things I could be doing. And bottomless popcorn . . . .

Those were nice. I really miss the paper tickets. So easy to nab a seat for a guest.

Barry was not on the search committee...
A further lack of transparency. Community groups are having to issue FOI requests because the university isn't being forthcoming about the process. I fear things will get worse with the financial stakes getting higher and big donors requiring anonymity.

If true, why would they want to play the last game of the regular season, that could possibly be for a conference championship on crappy ice instead of your home rink?

The men also have a home series that weekend with Michigan and the Gamblers have a home game that day.
No way do I want to play for the conference title on crappy neutral ice. MJ needs to stop giving these home games away. If true.
