? I don't understand this post. I was not talking about the Cafe, I was talking about the country.

I have no issue with you or anybody here. If you have an issue with me, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I knew what you meant, and I certainly didn’t make that clear in my post.

I have no issues with you or anyone else on here for that matter. It’s a message board. You are my blue brethren in the sea of red I reside in. I come here to chill, not get riled up.

wait, so there's not 400M in donations covering it??

all the mouthbreathers said it was ok because it was donations and not taxpayer dollars. Yet, this will all be ok.....

c'mon Canada, process my app. I'm sick of this fucking hellhole

Mind if I ask you a few questions on your experience with this (feel free to differ as I don't want you to disclose any personal info). My brother and I are considering an application as our MGF was born in NB.
1. Are you using a Canadian attorney? If so, about how much is the cost?
2. What documents did you submit? I currently have mine and mother's birth certificate along with GF's US naturalization papers stating birthplace of NB to show lineage. Is that enough?
3. Any time frames on approval/denial?

Happy to help. First off, no attorney needed. I met with one and after a few minutes, he admitted a lawyer isn't necessary, so I submitted on my own.
So if it's your mom's grandfather, you would need:
Your birth cert
mom's birth cert
mom's marriage cert if her name changed from her birth cert
mom's parent's birth cert
mom's grandfather's birth doc/baptismal doc if possible

those are the minimum docs. I also submitted a few supplemental docs (but as my lineage was all maternal, marriage certs became necessary) that you may want to: Census docs from Canada and the US as both list birth place. Death certs don't mean a ton, because those are just filled out with whatever someone says.

as my lineage is all Quebec, I'm not sure about NB in particular. Quebec didnt issue birth certs in the 1800s, but god bless the catholic church for their baptismal records, we got a certified copy of it from BANQ.

Timeline: About a year if you are non urgent and apply now-ish. Seems to be getting a little longer as more americans apply.

Highly recommend checking out https://www.reddit.com/r/Canadiancitizenship/
This is an incredibly helpful sub, you'll be able to find NB specific info too. They'll have examples of packets submitted, how to answer every ? on the app, etc. Start at "Start here"

I will also say that online records tend to have more than you think; between familysearch, ancestry, and some sites that get you census data, you can get a lot of it printed off even if you're waiting for "official" certified copies of something.

app cost is $75CAD per person, plus whatever cost is for some very specific photos (mine was like $20) plus whatever you may have to pay for certified copies of docs

My wifes grandfather was a dual Citizen. But born in US and then moved to NB when he married a Canadian women, became a Citizen at that point I believe. They owned property in NB and my wifes mom still owns property there. I believe her mom tried to become a citizen but no go but this was many years ago. Her mom lived in NB for many years before the cold winters drove her out.. Im sure many folks in Maine have ties to quebec and NB.

Thanks so much. Great info. In process of getting/have all this except for GGF birth cert. Didn't think about that one. Appreciate the lawyer info too. Best of luck with your application.

Curious, is this a situation where you are grabbing any other potential passport, or not loving where things are right now?
Actually no. My brother leases property in ON and has been getting a lot of hassle with work permits, etc. He wants citizenship to avoid these issues. I would love to purchase a summer retreat in northern Ontario and this would make it much easier (the process of getting Canadian citizenship will probably be easier than convincing my wife to agree to this). I am also trying to get it all in place so my daughter, who thinks the US is on track to become the Republic of Gilead and is worried she will get targeted for being gay, can explore the option.
