SUNYAC 2026..additions and subtractions...and Tomfoolery...

Well coach Gosek will be missed for sure, he ran a great program and had his players out doing many activities in the community which helped all involved....Best of luck in retirement coach and see ya at the games.......I would imagine JW will take over the reigns, but ya never know...Let's Go Lakers!!!!!!

This is a bit sudden, and the timing seems odd. We all thought he was going to do this in two years time. Plus, I know he wanted one last go with St. Norbert and his good friend Tim Coghlin, which is why they arranged the home-and-home series over the next two years. So, to work that out and then walk away like this has me concerned. Unless he just looked in the mirror one morning and said, "Nah, I had enough."
Ya never know, the Cortland volleyball just retired, shes 36 ,we have won 5 straight SUNYAC Titles ,etc etc but she has 3 small kids and wanted to be with them, there are many reasons coaches retire, hope Ed is sailing off into the sunset and alls well....

Yeah interestingly enough during one of his tweets D3 hockey news told him to enjoy the carolinas. Considering buy and moving a house that fair away aint easy seems like this has been the case for a while if the media members got the inside scoop and that hes gone gone he's not even gonna be in the stands as a fan. One member on this forum pointed out that during the season more often than not whitelaw was the man in the huddle with the clipboard giving out instructions so that furthers the point even more. I wouldnt be shocked if he was announced as the head coach tomorrow morning. Also Coghlins what 2 years younger imagine if he retired this summer as well????

Jon Whitelaw wouldn't surprise me...but I also wouldn't be surprised if Mark Digby would be interested in coming back over from the girls side. He was Ed's assistant for quite awhile as well.

Definitely taken aback by this news. To me it feels off...especially with the St. Norbert series and Coughlin being a good friend as Russell points out. Hope his health is alright.

Honestly, maybe the final straw was with this new potential NCAA rule and the five years from high school graduation, which essentially will flip the traditional college hockey model on its head. Oswego has traditionally always taken 21 year old freshmen from Ontario junior leagues.

The RIT coach, Wayne Wilson, did that. Retired, moved to Ohio (I believe he inherited his father's vacation home), and never appeared in the stands except for the Homecoming Weekend Brick City game in the downtown arena.

I wonder about Digby, too. To me, he was always the coach in waiting, but then got tired of waiting. When he was offered the women's job, I thought, okay, a holding spot. But I think he really got into that side of the game and has thoroughly enjoyed it. So, I wonder if he even has any desire to (back) move over to the men.

Coach G will go down as one of the all time greats in "O" State history along with Max Ziel, Walt Nitarty, Ken Peterson, Boozer, Mike Dean, Don Unger, Frank Piano, etc.. I was fortunate to play for a few of them!!

Coach Gosek told my Dad two years ago that in two years he was riding off into the sunset. He briefly considered going a couple more but plans to travel with his girlfriend and spend more time with his grandkids. Nothing lasts forever but still I'm sorry to see him go.

For what ever Coach G reason to retire is irreverent. All one has to do is respect it. He's been a great COACH for the Lakers for a long time and we should relish in his accomplishments. Yes he will be sorely missed for he has great passion for Great Laker hockey, which touched many players in his incredible career. I hope he finds that same level in his new chapter in his live. Congratulations Coach on a great time behind the bench.
