Movies: Poor Things, Barbie and Oppenheimer are stuck in La La Land

Project Hail Mary is absolutely delightful
It does about as good of a job as any adapted movie (modern era) has accomplished in dedicatedly following the original book story as I’ve seen. Some stuff cut, a few small bits added, but none of the changes have an impact on the overall narrative for the story as a whole, nor do they completely rewrite any characters.

The absolute shade being served to Warner Brothers in this trailer...

Forget Hail Mary, this is the movie of the year!

I agree... I will absolutely be buying a ticket to this in August!

Seems like it will be akin to a sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek version of Space Jam with a fair bit of meta humor probably added in after the fact.

Trailer for Disclosure Day makes it look like the lowest effort, least mentally or philosophically challenging movie ever made. (Checks director.) That tracks.

Just watched this one for the first time in a while. A guilty pleasure of mine.

Stalker (1979 Russia).

The film revolves around the belief that there is a a mysterious "oasis" called The Zone during a dystopian time, and the journey of 3 men trying to find it.

The entire film had to be nearly reshot after 1 year after they discovered previous film stock was unusable. It was not critically acclaimed at the time and I had zero frame of reference going into it other than my neighbor recommended it and I am glad he did. Complex with unforgettable imagery, profoundly beautiful, and at times intentionally boring.

Russian language and nearly 3 hours, but I highly recommend.
