UNH Hockey Off Season Thread 2026

DeAngelis is a D-men and I think either him or Plandowski is gone just a guess. I'd guess on Siedem, DeTurris and Mcpherson who probably wants more playing time and maybe reunite with his brother?. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

DeAngelis, early in the season, showed great poise and puck movement, but just became invisible as the year went on.

He had some decent looks on the PP in October/November.

Ah yes. I stand corrected in DeAngelis.

I could see Plandowski as well he did get in 30 games this year, but perhaps he’s looking for other pastures and his past draft pedigree probably still carries some weight.

I hope MacPherson stays I thought he was starting to turn a corner at the end of the season. But again, based on draft pedigree he will likely have other suitors.

Did his brother ever find another school? I know he went back to juniors this year but he wasn’t having the best of years.

Has UNH ever lost 7 guys to the portal before? I remember 3-5 in the past. Can’t remember if the number ever eclipsed 7.

Might be up to 8 now…
There's gonna be so many kids in the portal this year, many that are gonna have to settle on Div 3 schools compared to prior years. Souza probably knows this could be his last chance to salvage his job and if mostly the bottom half of the depth chart leaves that's why.

I believe some of our guys are planning to drop down to D3

The house settlement roster size limit along with the CHL change is still rippling through College Hockey.

Limited number of spots, 65*26=1,690 which is down from around 2-3 players per team so ~162.
While at the same time opening another giant pool of potential CHL talent.

Depending on your level of self awareness you could go from wanting more D1 ice time to no seat at the D1 table.

Objectively, it's hard to believe 7-8 players will actually pull the trigger on entering the portal ... not questioning the sourcing here, but there's a difference between a player stating dissatisfaction with the program (kind of a college hockey "beer muscles" exercise), and then actually entering the uncertainty of the portal ... and yes, I understand there is uncertainty as an official statement of position, and real actual uncertainty for players at the bottom end of a roster in an abysmal program to assume there will be suitors elsewhere in D-1. Someone like Conmy was always going to have suitors, and in all likelihood that was sorted out well before the official portal opening date last Spring, as it usually is for the most desirable portal candidates. I think JB echoed the self-awareness issue a few posts earlier.

So I'll guess that "only" half of the speculated amount will actually leave, and half of those will be going D-3. The other half are taking the real risk, as returning to the comfort of your old digs after bombing out in the portal is not a good look, and will probably not make you a real popular player with the guy in charge back at the inn.

It will be interesting to see what happens, and if I've guessed wrong and it does turn out to be the 7-8 bloodbath exodus predicted in some quarters here, that person gets all the credit, AND the credibility for having the guts to come on here and say so ahead of time, in front of the highly cynical UNH USCHO interwebs ...

3 defensemen and 4 forwards will be entering the portal. Could be more but these are the ones I confirmed
Geez, I hope this is wrong. I would have guessed 3 defensemen (Conn/ Hahn/ Player) and 2 forwards (Siedem/ Walsh) if solely based on opportunities. That would make the departure total= 11 (graduates Cronin/ Skrastins/ Leclerc/ Winters (+2 portal) and 3 defensemen (portal) plus the 2 graduating Goalies). Adding 2 Defensemen (Von Richter/ Kennedy) and 4 forwards (Romeo/ Tournas/ Hyles/ Zebeski). We would need to grab 2 forwards, a defenseman, and Goalie in the portal (providing Henriquez (G) and Grimes (D) are added). I sure hope that McPherson stays. He is the one player this past year that had more game than MS7 gave him credit for. One would think he would have the most interest in the portal.

He’s a good kid. Feel like he never really got a chance to prove what he could (or could not.

Does anyone know what happened to Jack Cronin this year? he played in the first 8 games then he disappeared.

I don’t think MS7 has really shown much apt with the portal. Outside of goalies (Hellsten and KC), who has he gotten that has made a significant difference? I can be convinced of Lindner from AIC - he was steady for sure. But what about the rest?

Looking at the last few years:
Cronin barely played this past year

Whale was pretty meh his first year, and barely played this year

Ryan Black from DIII was also not that impactful.

Blaisdell had one decent year, but was also not that great…

I’m probably missing a few more. Those are the ones that immediately come to mind.

We’ve talked at length about MS7s inability to develop talent from recruits. And I think (for the most part) it extends to the portal as well.

Hopefully he does better this year, especially if we are losing a predicted 7-8 guys…
