UMass Lowell 2025-2026: Youth will be served

Another heart-breaker. I agree with what Norm said last week. It's not for a lack of effort as much as it is a lack of awareness and experience on some key plays. As much as I want to say you also need a couple more saves from Elliott, three of those goals don't even become opportunities if the team in front of him isn't asleep at the wheel. Especially the first two. Also, 99% of the time it's probably not a winning strategy to just let Jack Musa do whatever he wants for 60 minutes. On to Friday.

I will say for most of the game Lowell was the better team except for goaltending

First time since January of 1988 that they scored 4 goals or more in back to back home games and lost both.

On the positive side, Josh Mori was the first freshman defenseman with 2 goals in a home game since Mike Nicolishen on February 10, 1995 against BU at Tully Forum.

I didnt watch the game thoroughly as I was coaching my own basketball game, but when the other team scores recently, it just seems floodgates seem to open. The team loses focus and another goal happens almost immediately after. happened against maine 2x last week in one game. Im hoping Elliott stays with the team at the end of this year. But if this continues, I wouldnt be surprised to see him in the portal...

Just discovering this now and going through it all, I can’t really disagree with much of this. It’s been a really frustrating season. They can’t seem to get any scoring going and their power play is one of the most frustrating things I’ve seen.
Where has Mirko been? I’m assuming an injury but haven’t heard or seen anything definitive.

Prior to the season, I had noted there were a lot of question marks on this team, but I had hoped with this many new players, we'd be building something the second half of the year. I had looked particularly at this part of the schedule with a 5-game home stretch. We've gone 0-4 so far in that stretch and just 2-9 at home this season. I just don't have much good to say at this point.

Have some stuff going on, so wasn't able to make it last night. Did watch most of the game though. Fun to see a solid defensive performance and some well-timed goals. Can they get the weekend sweep? I'm hoping, but doubtful.

Well, they did a nice job tying the game up after a terrible start. A bad goal at the end of the 2nd period and poor puck management on the PP to start the 3rd period resulting in a SHG was the difference. One step forward one step back.

Game highlights.

On to Vermont, The Catamounts are 7-4 since the start of the new year.

Alright, I'll preface this by saying that I love what Coach Bazin brought to the program. I love that he went to the school so it matters to him, and I enjoyed even being in a couple of classes with him (albeit he graduated 2 years before me). But I'm starting to see more comments about "it's time" from friends of mine that support the program. 15 years is a long time to coach in one place (I know we've seen longer in college hockey), but I just don't know if his message is translating anymore, I know his recruiting isn't where we want it to be, and I don't think the system works anymore. I've said it a couple of times this year, but I do notice that the guys are playing for him, so he hasn't lost the locker room. But we are currently last in HE (PPG), finished 7th last year and last in 23/24. I'd like to think that's not acceptable by the administration.

In the most recent Sun article, Lowell's Jacob MacDonald had surgery and is done for the season.
Nice piece about Parks in that article. The points haven't always come easy for him like they did in the USHL but he's grown into one of their better 200 foot players. I remember how overwhelmed he looked in his first few games and now he looks confident in all situations. Hoping he stays.

Tonight's line chart. Richard gets the start.

Outshot 35-23, but Lowell gets the win up at UVM 4-2 tonight. Fell down 1-0, but then tied the game before the end of the first and scored three straight in the third to take a 4-1 lead before UVM added another. The first Lowell goal was a highlight reel passing goal, and the second and third were due to great passes as well. Frosh Dominic Rivelli got his first goal tonight. Good game for Richard in net with 33 saves. With the win, Lowell moves to 9th, one point ahead of UVM (who has a game in hand) and 2 ahead of UNH (2 games in hand.
