yes it is along with very good support from the school and the athletic department I am sure.....its a team effort

Having watched the early OT win against Utica, and knowing the finals are played at the AUD, nothing is inevitable. While Hobart has gelled at a high level, and Taylor keeps practices edgy, I do see a few teams out west that look dangerous and Oswego and Hamilton are threats. With single elimination you never know.

Even though I have marveled at Hobart's run, let's not forget they never went through a playoff run without overtimes. And anything can happen in overtime. Heck, they needed four of them to get by Curry in the quarterfinals. They needed overtime to win championship games. No matter how good you are, it also takes a bit of luck to run the tables in a single elimination tournament.

Definitely can happen...the crazy thing is I keep hearing this Hobart team might be better than the previous three. I still am having a hard time fathoming that we are seeing another "Middlebury run" in this day and age for D3 hockey. There are just so many good teams now as opposed to the 10-15 that were good when Middlebury dominated with eight titles in 13 years and five in a row.

While I think this is the best Hobart team overall , every run has had nip and tuck OT games in the playoffs. Heck, last year's Trine game went to OT in the Cooler and was scary as hell. We were down 2-0 going into the final period and scored 2 in the third and won in OT.. Even though the final OT against Utica was incredibly dramatic, I was biting my nails more at the Trine game with our backs against the wall. . I know there will be some intense contests before this season is over.and we'll see if this talented team has that assassins pulse that the last three teams had.when it really counts.

. Hobart is happy to be with the cool SUNYAC teams. This weekend the Statesmen travel to new rival Plattsburgh and old rival Skidmore to keep the season's streak alive. The Statesman's last loss was January 2025 in OT against Albertus Magnus .
 
Hobart Statesmen put away Plattsburgh 7-0 and then escape Skidmore's rink with a 1-0 nail biter scoring the winning goal with 3 minutes left Skidmore has always come to play and almost stole one tonight. Mavrik Goyer gets the shutout and has been impressive in his last 2

Not to whine and complain about schedule makers giving a team quite a going over with travel itineraries from hell but, if Hobart does that, well they can complain and they probably should. First approaching 5 hours travel to Plattsburgh. Don't know if Hobart was willing to spend the money to at least get the players there Thursday night but, if they didn't, it was probably then another 2 hours to Saratoga most likely right after the game. Either way it's still seven hours travel in total with possibly a near midnight Friday arrival without even the benefit of a 7 P.M. game on Saturday (just like they gave Oswego).

Surprise, surprise they looked as flat as pancakes today. The usual maniacal and tenacious forecheck that wears out teams to a nub and causes turnover after turnover was non existent. Instead, today it was replaced with leaning and reaching which, in hockey world, is a pretty good indicator players were over traveled. Not a shock that the top six up front and top four in the back were not all that visible as such today.

As for things on the plus side, they still gave up no goals all weekend and that is really something under the circumstances. There are also no more weekends out of travel hell. The only away weekend left is two 90 minute drives that will probably be both ways each day. They will skate a lot better that weekend.
 
welcome to the club my friend. doesnt matter if the travel partner is skidmore or potsdam going to platty has been a nightmare ever since they started playing hockey. To be honest, those guys have had 3 years of NEHC travel so i just think they had an off day and escaped with one, which is bound to happen every season.

I think Skidmore knows Hobart well and was ready for giving the Geneva boys a battle. In past years this would have been a trap game loss or tie, but they persevered . I also think the travel last year was more challenging, so I'm not sure we shouldn't be giving Skidmore more credit for a well played game.

Coming out of several years in the NEHC I would have thought travel wouldn’t be much of an issue now.
 
Hobart was the better team, even with an unusual sloppiness to their game. Skidmore played a very disciplined defensive game. Collapsed around their own net not allowing Hobart to penetrate in close. There were a few close calls at either end of the ice, good teams find a way and Hobart was able to get the win.
