Utica University 2025-26 - The Road (back) To Utica

Hand gifted Hamilton a 5 on 3 on two weak calls after not calling anything all game. Missed multiple blatant calls against Hamilton, most noticeably with 3:39 remaining in the 3rd.
Eh, there is always putrid officiating at the D-3 level.

Utica was gassed by the 3rd. That was the difference.

It always seems like the refs in D3 feel like they have to even out the penalties or make a certain amount of calls each game to justify themselves. Very frustrating for all involved. Gotta play through it I guess. :(

yup, its like a sloppy field in football, both teams are on the same field, deal with it....

Reffing was a topic for discussion this past weekend (not for Layer Eight, but in general).

There are 20 more DIII men's teams than there used to be, no idea on DIII women or D1 hockey. But those 20 teams require at least 80 more refs. After seeing what goes on at lower levels of hockey, is it any wonder there is a lack of experienced, qualified refs? Game officials are in short supply for every sport. But ditto what bakdraft21 just said......

Technically, 40 more refs. 20 extra teams add 10 games per day max. (But, you still need more than 40 just for logistical purposes.)

Oswego is 6-6-2 vs utica in the aud all time that is true. But their last win vs Utica at the aud was 1/11/2014 when I was in 7th grade. Throw in their utica tournament appearances theyre 2-7-3 since that date in games at the aud. Those 2 wins were in 2015 and 2019 over St Johns and Plymouth State

You are correct. Dumb, dumb me was looking at the list "backwards." LOL

And now they lost again in the Aud.

Unfortunately you witnessed that first hand last year
The only actual perennial national power St. Norbert lost to on the road last year was UW-Stevens Point. Perennial national powers deemed as such by the likes of Fishguts or you, IceMutt, are not applicable.

You walked yourself into that one. You’re lying to yourself if you didn’t think I was coming back with that.

Nubs aside, good game tonight from both sides. Despite the shot totals I don’t think either team carried the play. Both teams are very average. Neither goalie particularly helped them out. Both sides I feel have some work to do. Neither of these teams are top 10 teams right now.
