Colgate 2025-26

sshablak

It all starts with the goaltending.
Nice October schedule posted if accurate. Boston Univ and Maine will be four tough away games, should give us an idea where we stand. Wondering why of twelve or more recruits only seven are actually coming, anyone know more ? We lost a highly touted goalie but gained another one in six four Dyck, a Bruins draft pick. Carry on...it's been too long with no hockey.

Thanks, Shabby, for officially welcoming in the ‘Gate New Year!

Sadly, Canisius and RIT at home will tell us where we stand as much as Boston & Maine on the (rail) road.

Overall, I am happy with the schedule and will plan on hitting all home games and all non-conference away games.

Maine, Quinnipiac, Cornell and runner-up BU were all in last year’s 16-team NCAA tournament, so that’s pretty good for strength of schedule. I always compare with my previous ‘home team’ Nebraska - Omaha, which will face ‘25 tourney teams in Minnesota State, Massachusetts, champion Western Michigan, Cornell and Denver.

I don’t follow recruiting, but I look forward to seeing this coming season’s goalie rotation.

The schedule posted on the Colgate athletics web site is missing a few games. The Colgate men's ice hockey Instagram account also lists the following matchups:
  • Home vs. RIT on both Oct 31 and Nov 1
  • Away at Michigan State on Nov 26 and Nov 28
This is 2 years in a row that our OOC schedule is 4 home, 8 away. The OOC away games are all against teams we did not play in 2024-25, so fingers crossed that they all play at '65 in the future. Also, I hope that Penn State does eventually make a return trip to Hamilton. It would suck if we only played them at their barn.

Iowabasedtraveler, you must be thrilled that 50% of our OOC schedule is against "teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season", since that's been your benchmark of a quality opponent.

Rainman, thanks! I don't use Instagram, so the Michigan State series is a HUGE surprise. In fact, today, just seconds after seeing the website schedule, I RSVP'ed to a wedding invitation from friends in Pittsburgh, Penna., for Saturday, November 29 (since Colgate wasn't playing that weekend). Now I guess that I will drive out to East Lansing, Mich., for the Thanksgiving series and drive the six hours to Pittsburgh on that Saturday morning. he he he

And, yes, I am 'over the moon' at the overall quality of our non-conference (and in-conference) opponents for this coming season, especially Boston University, Maine, Michigan State, Cornell and Quinnipiac. My theory has always been, 'if we want to play better hockey, long-term, then we need to play better hockey teams, even if we lose in the short-term.' In eight years of watching Colgate closely, I believe that we tend to play up to the level of teams above us in the PairWise Ranking (and down to teams below us).

Thanks again for making my day!

Happy to see the series with MSU has finally been announced. I was told back in April about the UNH and Colgate series, but asked not to post. Welcome to East Lansing….I didn’t ask, but assume we’ll be heading your way in the future.

6 very tough OOC road games at BU, Maine, and Michigan State, all in single digits in pairwise last year. I would be ECSTATIC if we were to win just one of those 6 games.

Magoo, thanks for waking everybody up from our summer sleep. As I have said before, I enter each new college hockey season figuring that I will see Colgate and Omaha in the national championship game come mid-April. I lower my expectations as the season progresses. Having said that, I would be absolutely ecstatic with five or six wins in those three non-conference road series that you mention. I would be ‘over the moon ‘ as my Aussie mates would say, with three or four wins. I would be mildly disappointed with just two wins and severely disappointed by just one win. I will request a suicide watch in advance with zero wins in those six games. he he he

Separate subject… tonight, Zach Lamont and I went to the new M&T Bank Center in Schenectady, N.Y., for their Open House. I believe that it had the same architect as Colgate had for the Class of 1965 Arena. I believe the capacity at both is 2200. Needless to say, inside, it is very similar to our arena. Differences that stood out to me? Seven suites. Seats do not have arm-rests, but they also don’t have deadly cup-holders. I sat in a seat which was similar to my seat in Hamilton, N.Y., and I found myself trying to look through a hand-railing towards the goal at the opposite end of the rink. Do hand-railings at Class of 1965 Arena block some views? However, somebody learned a lesson as they appear to have double the number of restrooms that we have at our rink. But entry stairs, elevator, team bench locations, etc., all look similar. The sound system/acoustics were terrible, but maybe that was only because the ring-master was using a hand-held microphone down on the ice. Anyway, I am glad that I went and I look forward to officially logging it in during February when Colgate visits Union on the Mohawk River near the Rivers casino.

Good report Iowa. Inside, the rink certainly bears a strong resemblance to '65. From the brief search I did it was not the same architect. Sasaki did the excellent work in Hamilton and it appears that Labella was architects of record for Mohawk Harbor.

I am not a fan of polls, but I likes the 10-team Atlantic Hockey America’s preseason coaches’ poll, which has...
Canisius #7, and
RIT #8.

Colgate plays both at home in non-conference action this early season.

Shabby, I am thrilled at the prospect!! I asked Colgate if they are handling tickets and apparently they are not. So, before the event, I need to ask Clinton Arena how it will be handled. I do not want to miss this opportunity. Thanks!

If no other way I will drive over and get you a ticket. Can't imagine they won't be online sales.

Thanks, Shabby! I messaged the Clinton Arena on Facebook and this was the response… “This will be a fundraiser for Clinton Youth Hockey and as soon as I have more information, I will post it.”

Apparently Colgate is going to Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 2026 for the annual Friendship Four tournament with UConn, Providence and Minnesota - Duluth.
