Maine Recruits: When Ashes Fall, Legends Rise

One thing that will be interesting to see is if Maine tries to play Marques at center. I say this because he appears to thrive in the center of the ice, has the stick handling to generate deadly chances in the middle. Also in an interview he mentioned Predators wanted him to try to play center. It doesn’t appear as though that ever happened at Lethbridge. Here is a highlight reel where you can see despite always playing wing he can be dominant in the center. https://youtu.be/0eloRCGb4nE?si=lAcB7b5BmdyXpFaq

A good amount of the QMJHL training camps have started today.

Here's a list of the our recruits on invites/preseason rosters I saw on teams websites:

Jude Herron - Charlottetown
Julien Wasmer - Chicoutimi
Wade Weil - Chicoutimi
Joesph Covelluzzi - Newfoundland
Mikus Vecvanags - Newfoundland
Kuzma Voronin - Moncton

I see Michael Munroe on the Halifax pre-season roster. But I don’t know if he is actually planning to attend the camp.

Here is a podcast for the London Knights called the Knight Shift. It has a segment with an interview of Maine recruit Evan Van Gorp(F) about his hometown celebration with the memorial cup and the bigger role he will take on this season. https://chl.ca/ohl-knights/video/ne...lebrations-training-camp-knight-shift-ep-230/

Seems like they are anticipating he will get top six minutes and some special teams time this season, which he didn’t get last season as the Knights were stacked line up with a lot of veterans.

Maine goalie recruit Mikus Vecvanags of Newfoundland(QMJHL) played the first 30 minutes tonight in Newfoundland’s last preseason game in case anyone wants to watch. It was a so so performance. He gave up 2 goals, one soft and one he was left out to dry by his two defensemen and had no shot at stopping. https://www.youtube.com/live/2iWMAYMNFqc?si=bPAFhulRAUP4iQcR
in case people weren't aware... pretty sure the main reason Vecvanags only got into this game and not any of the earlier games was due to travel issues. aircanada strike made travel more complicated all around, but especially for the Euro players. plenty arrived late from more usual travel destinations, let alone Latvia. i don't know exactly when he got in but it took longer than most.

Can add Covelluzzi to the QMJHL list for Newfoundland as well.

He actually left after playing some preseason games despite playing well in the games.

Here is a link to their roster heading into the season… https://x.com/nlregiment/status/1963685472347009217

My guess is he has to finish highschool and will play for Cushing Academy again. I haven’t seen that confirmed anywhere. Likely he attended their camp to solidify his return after he is done with highschool. He is only 16 right now.

Thanks for pointing him out, I forgot to mention him as waiting to see where he plays.
