2025 Bracketology: The Road to TBD!

There is a rotation and I'm pretty sure it hasn't been west since 2019 due to the two covid years and then three straight years in the East (Endicott, Lake Placid, Trinity).

It's supposed to go to the other region at least once every four years.

It's out West unless the West team that makes it didn't apply or doesn't have a suitable building to host

Otherwise priority would go by NPI

So , the word is the final four will be played out West despite final NPI ratings.
There are possible exceptions. If no facility is capable of hosting (though, after Endicott, that's a very loose requirement) or if no one puts in a bid to host (the NCAA still needs some planning time to make sure the facility is actually available, especially for those schools who don't have an on campus rink).

I was also always under the impression that if your seeding is ridiculously low and the only option left, they don't have to pick you. A committee member once told me that. But I think they won't do that.

But yes, this year was always set up for a Western team to host.

Bracketology for games up until February 10th. Very straight forward week this week that would leave us with 1v9, 2v7, 3v6 and 4v5 if it were all-chalk in Round 1, and no flights, so an easy week all around. Some big games with potential tournament implications this weekend though (Utica v. Geneseo x2, Trine v. Adrian x2, Cortland v. Oswego, Stevens Point v. Superior)

CNE: Curry (2)
MAC: Wilkes (21)
MASCAC: Plymouth State (16)

UCHC: Geneseo (5)
WIAC: Superior (12)

Utica (4)
St. Norbert (6)
UNE (7)
Adrian (9)

(Difference between Adrian and Trine for the final at-large right now is 0.001 according to NPI)

Plymouth State @ Utica
Cortland @ Geneseo
Hamilton @ UNE

Quarterfinals:

Wilkes/Adrian @ Hobart
Hamilton/UNE @ Curry
Superior/St. Norbert @ Gustavus/Aurora
Cortland/Geneseo @ Plymouth State/Utica

New bracketology for games through 2/15. One new team (Trine) enters the bracket to sufficiently change things. As a note, I will until the NCAA shows that they're going to shift directions, take travel constraints as the first point when putting these together, which is why the Trine/Geneseo/Hobart pod has to exist, it's the only way it works to leave us with 0 flights until the Final Four

I'd definitely watch Trine/Genny and Hamilton/Cortland.

Friendly notice that D3HN has Anna Maria in the lead in the MASCAC in terms of point percentage. Not trying to call you out @Pioneer247 I really appreciate what you do! Just wanted to give you a heads up!

Anyone can do bracketology any way they want. Pioneer uses the method of having the teams win out the rest of their games. D3HN uses the point percentage. Ultimately, it's all shits and giggles until the real one comes out. :)

I just love late night NPI changes after games go final....

Fortunately, because of the pod each team was already win, the difference between them getting 1 and 2 is only who they'd play in a Frozen Four

Best matchup in the first round (IMO) would be Genny and Trine. Cortland/Hamilton should be a good one as well. I'd expect UNE and SNC to advance.

The entire bracket looks like fun, actually. Hope that the games I'm most interested in are streamed.

After Plymouth State was eliminated last night, this is where we stand with bracketology:

Well time to update the bracket and then again next week. Second best time of the season. Only time better is the start, where everyone has a chance.
Oswego '88

Oswego and Eau-Claire enter the picture as AQs, but the overall picture really doesn't change

If you're a bubble team on the at-large line, you're rooting hard for Curry, Hobart, and St. Norbert next weekend, those three conferences hold your potential bid stealers

At the end of the Trinity-Middlebury broadcast yesterday, the Trinity commentator was surprisingly positive about the Bantams getting an at-large bid. Surely not a chance.

But a lot of pressure on Hamilton, who have only made one tournament appearance ever and seemingly are out if they don't win the NESCAC.

I know, ratios and all that, but surely it's time to expand the tournament!

If there was a number that could quantify a less than 0% chance, that's the chance Trinity has to make NCAA's at this point

But yes, I would love to see a 16 team tournament in D3 one day, but by current NCAA rules, we'd need to get to 96 teams to hit that 16 team mark

Let's take a look at who I think are the Locks, the Bubble, and who needs help:

LOCKS:
Curry
Hobart
Utica
Aurora

Should Be In barring many upsets:
St. Norbert
Geneseo

At-Large Bubble:
UNE
Trine

Needs To Win Their Conference AQ:
Endicott
Anna Maria
Fitchburg State
MCLA
St. Olaf
Gustavus
Adrian
Norwich
Skidmore
NEC
Hamilton
Colby
Tufts
Middlebury
Oswego
Plattsburgh
Eau-Claire
River Falls

If you're a UNE and Trine fan, you're rooting hard specifically for Curry, Hobart, and St. Norbert to take care of business. Any of them lose, and your season is probably over
