UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Makes perfect sense. Why give a lame-duck bureaucracy a slice of the pie, when nobody really needs that middleman anymore? Still, uncharted waters ahead. Might destroy any remaining vestige of college sports, which will in turn destroy my interest in the whole deal.

SUNYAC 25-26 The start of a new era

Interesting post, thanks. Sums up the weekend nicely. Utica is indeed hanging by a thread for a possible AL berth. A very thin thread, at that. Turns out that they over-scheduled early on, but that's hindsight. Had they split those first four games they'd be in solid shape right now. Oh well...

Utica University 2025-26 - The Road (back) To Utica

Eh, there is always putrid officiating at the D-3 level. Utica was gassed by the 3rd. That was the difference.

I was really interested in seeing UMB tonight, and they didn't disappoint. Looked like UU would run them out of the barn on the early going, but no... UMB played a very solid game in an overall sense, and especially in goal. Utica is very quick and is gelling, but Hamilton is looking like a...

Maine outplayed BC all weekend long, despite the split. Loved "Rooster" tonight. He starts next weekend, no two ways. But yeah, it's hard to feel good about it until we know that Langlois is OK. For what little it's worth, I was hit in a very similar angle playing HS football. No such thing as...

Good God. Men's hoops stinks like a road-killed skunk in July. I've played more disciplined teams during my decades in the Y leagues.

Thanks for the link, and just to get it right, that asshole RA was from Fort Kent, come to think of it. My apologies to Calais. I had a bona-fide GF from there back in the day. Her dad held a local office, and she was pretty amazing while she still found me amusing. (Her surname was waaay...

UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

I was a 19 YO college student... Way too poor to drink! My asshole RA - a complete douchebag from Calais - wouldn't so much as let me sleep even in the basement of Corbett Hall just before the dorm opened the next morning, or even in his car. He lived to regret that, but I was on the cold...

I slept there one night before the dorms opened. Not very cozy.

The beauty contest polls are fundamentally ridiculous, and meaningless to boot. I really wonder why they still exist. HOWEVER, if some coach (more likely an equipment manager) fills out a ballot having Hobart as #1, why would you "demote" a team you've ranked below them for losing to your own...

Oh, Darius, those French girls in Millinocket were as cute as could be. Petite brunettes with lovely brown eyes, and always up for a night out. I loved them to death. A couple of them would speak French to me when the pedal hit the metal, if I asked. (Think Kevin Klein in "A Fish Called Wanda".)...

Are you insinuating that the girls were my first-cousins..? How dare you! I might be of Maine stock, but I draw the line there.

We didn't have a liquor license back then, but we stocked vanilla extract -never mind that nobody ever actually baked cakes in the cottages- and it would sell out quickly. The pulp truckers would literally drink ANYTHING with alcohol in it, even Aqua Velva. True story. When you saw those crazy...

Worked for Pray's Cottages. My little trailer was behind the main building where Charlie Pray and Nancy lived. Next to mine was another trailer where my co-workers stayed. (Two hot tickets from Millinocket, who will remain un-named for legal reasons.) Life was good. Fished my balls off all...
