UNH 2026-27 Season Let's Go 'Cats!

It's interesting to see the damage done to the program, just using this forum as a measuring stick. When was the last time, in season, that UNH wasn't near the top of this forum? At the time of this post, this thread was buried on the second page, with no posts since Sunday. Interest is dwindling, and nobody in charge seems to care.

I saw the same last night and laughed that it’s now a page 2 programs. Nothing will change until the new AD can make his mark starting with a no renewal of MS7.

I’ve been told changes are coming. Time will tell.

Ive heard rumblings myself, but can't guarantee the integrity of the information. Until I can, my lips are sealed.

If anyone needs a palette cleanser, the little engine that cannot lose is back on track!

Despite losing four key rotation players - one to the G League, two to BIG starting roles and another to Coastal Carolina - Miami RedHawk basketball is once again undefeated (1-0), following a 51-point second half in a breezy win over a good James Madison team. That’s 34-straight regular season wins, dating back to March 2025, for anyone scoring at home…

FWIW, MU Hockey is 6-2-0 as they continue to grow post- coaching change.

Good news for UNH, I’m still willing to divide my attention - but for how long? Certainly they need to put up beaucoup goals against a UML defense that has been hemorrhaging offense all season…

Well, ummm, I'll take credit for keeping this thread bustling for nearly all of last year and the beginning of this one.

Saw a post on social media earlier this week (I haven’t fact checked it), regarding %’s of dump ins when going into the offensive zone.

5 most dump heavy:
Maine: 28.7%
Minnesota State: 25.8%
Clarkson: 24.8%
New Hampshire: 23.3%
Ferris State: 22.6%

5 least dump heavy:
Alaska: 10.7%
Ohio State: 11.1%
Western Michigan: 11.4%
Michigan State: 11.5%
Union: 11.9%
(Denver is 7th, North Dakota is 10th)

I’ve never been a fan of the “dump in” approach going back to the Umile days, and I’d say there are a greater number of strong teams in the “low amount of dump ins” column.

I think UNH has done a better job chasing after the dump ins this year vs previous years, but you need fast guys to chase it down, or it’s simply just a turnover.

How do others feel about dump ins?

I saw this as well. This is a direct result of the lack of transition from the D-Zone and the breakout consisting off the Souza Glass Flip. You can't get space when the winger is waiting for the puck to fall from the sky which results in a dump and chase play

Hi All - First time long time here. Was very optimistic after the Michigan state series but we are back to reality after being swept by Vermont. What would a realistic winning season look like to you? To be trending in the right direction and for Sousa to keep his job i think UNH would need to have a 20 win season and make it back to the NCAA tournament.

Side question : What the hell happened to the friends of UNH Hockey program? They used to do a great job hosting events , think they even ran the 50 50 which i have not seen this year has definitely gone down hill after going completely cashless and digital. As soon as friends of UNH hockey left it seems the program has gone in the toilet .

I do not see a path to 20 wins possible. At 3-4-1 the remaining schedule is
Home Games: 17
Away Games: 9

Conference: 21 (13H - 4A)
Out of Conference: 5 (4H - 1A)

If you win all 4 home OOC games, they need to go 13-8 in conference. Even if they split all conference games they fall short.

As for Friends, Marty slowly forced them out thinking UNH could run a similar type program to benefit all athletics which has been a complete failure.

Every program needs to be judged first and foremost by its competence in its own league. Out of league play only is relevant when a program is strong in conference. That's one of the reasons October hockey is overrated for lower tier programs. I doubt there's any realistic scenario that saves Souza. He's not been competitive in conference for his entire tenure.

The problem with UNH hockey is way beyond Souza but he clearly isn't the solution. As for your question, a .500 season in conference would be very successful for this UNH team relative to history. Still, it wouldn't save Souza. My bet is UNH, once again, is in the lower third in Hockey East but is more interesting and competitive night to night. UNH will win a few it shouldn't in February because the players will rally around Souza, who they likely know will be let go at the the end of the season. I'm certain the players really like and respect him.
