Boston College Hockey 2026 - 2027

I will go with the coaches
Bold strategy with Greg Brown running things. Let's see how it works out.

To illustrate just how crippling the Alaska (record of 1-5-0) loss is, and obviously it's a small sample size to be talking NPI, if you change that to a win BC would be 29th instead of current status at 46th and you could possibly entertain this team improving and making the NCAA tournament. It's so early it's tough to know what the league is looking like this year, just that we'll go into just about every single game with inferior coaching and goaltending and that's not a great strategy either.

It is strange to see so many folks over the moon with a loss and a tie this weekend. Yes that was a dire 2-0 hole on Saturday that they climbed out of but you get excited about that if you win the Friday game, not if you've lost to SCSU, Alaska, and DU already.

At some point soon it might be more productive discussion to get a list of good, viable replacements for Greg Brown when the time comes, and hopefully it is soon.

On the topic of Eagle alumni.... I'd say the Bruins are going to like Hagens very much. Its early to talk about - but has BC ever had a Calder winner?

Brown has a record of 97-51-12 to date, ~61% winning percentage.
He has averaged 23.75 wins per year in his first 4 full seasons.

Jerry York averaged 23.43 wins per year and a 64% win rate at BC in 28 seasons.

I do not expect Brown will overtake JY in win percentage, but his first 4 seasons look good to me.

I guess I will wait until the December break before I write this season off, just not a bandwagon jumper. There are 11 Freshmen on the team and a new Sophomore defensemen, plus 4 guys who are ailing and not even able to dress. Disappointing start but they had to climb Pike's Peak this past week end. They played well enough to win on Saturday, next four games are really important, now we get into league play and they need to be focused and disciplined for all three periods.

Here's a question for you. Out of all the HE Head Coaches, who do you think gets the most out of their players while some have less talent to work with and less resources than BC ?

Believe it or not, who would ever think the football team at 4-3 would ever have a better record than the hockey team ? 399 yds, all be it an injured ridden GT team, on the ground and a good commit from Will Wood @ QB from a Westwood school in the Catholic Conference.

The word you are looking for is albeit, but yes GT has a lot of injuries. Not sure how the record of the football team has much to do with the record of the hockey team, besides that they play under the same brand name. We get it, you have no confidence in Brownie but I feel he is doing a good job. He inherited a weak team, went to the NC game, was one win away in his third year, last year was a disappointing no question but I prefer to wait until all the results are posted for this ear.

I always thought of Hagens as more of a two way skilled grinder vs a flashy scorer. I think he fits in in his role with B’s well. A little Marchand in him. Following so many high end scorers at BC especially the prior few years he was never going to show like that at BC.

That's a matter of opinion but the point is, the football team was only expected to win 2 games and they have exceeded that this season after last season's horrible season.

Hockey is suppose to be one of the quality varsity teams year in year out at BC and right now, they only have 1 Win. This is 2026 and when he had the most talented team in 2024, he couldn't beat DU when it mattered. For a program that usually recruits talented players, his teams have under performed. I am not the only one here disappointed in GB. Some people on this thread and people I see outside, especially fellow alums are disappointed each season. Even tonight in passing working at a hockey game, a fellow alum mentioned the same F....... thing. Looking at winning pct. is not the only thing, how about winning games when it matters ? He's looking like another Len Cenglaski, the wins are there but not the Beanpot Trophies or NCAAs or tournament games.

Listening to Powers on the radio during games, you get the feeling the coaching staff does not know how to coach and manage a game. The lack of discipline and poor play reflects on the HC, Brown. I could go on and on but I will let Papagiogio and others continue to comment.

The football team only looks good relative to everyone's (justifiably) low expectations. I know McKenzie rushed for like 170 yards against GT, but the last time I checked a quarterback's primary job is to PASS the football. His 8 TD - 7 INT ratio is atrocious. His 8 passing TD in 7 games played is an equally atrocious TD rate. His 58% completion rate in this current era is also not remotely up to par.

Let's talk hockey here but before knocking MM's numbers remember there are receivers on the other end that have not held their part dropping a lot of catchable balls, a 60 yard or so pass play that somehow was ruled down at the 1 yard line that clearly appeared in and interceptions on 3rd and long that resulted in field position that would have been the same as a punt next play. Also, those numbers have improved as the season progressed. Remember he was a D2 player last year and to expect him to walk in without some adjustment is unrealistic. Back to hockey, hopefully that slow start will correct itself in the coming weeks, but BC has one win and a tie against the NCHC while the rest of Hockey East has only 1 win against them. Before knocking Hockey East, they are nearly in a dead heat with the B1G for the second best inter-conference record against the rest due to a 4-1 record against the B1G .581 to .588 behind the NCHC at .652, all far ahead of the next conference the CCHA at .465

Who is the 4th injured player? Joyce, Beauchesne and Moore have been out since being injured.
