RPI 2026-27: Houston Field House, We Have Lift-off!

Early odds - Union is a 1/2 goal favorite over us for the hockey game Friday. Football we are 38 point favorites over St. Lawrence in our last easy game before we travel to Ithaca for what should determine who is the Liberty League Champion before returning home to face Union.

Ha, preseason votes still doing the work. Dartmouth's 12th and Cornell 15th at 0-0-0. Both finally play this weekend, so we'll see if they earned it. Meanwhile we've got Union Friday.

I suspect some of the votes are simply by reputation. Some voters may not even have seen some teams on TV or live yet vote by name recognition. i do think it really absurd to include in the polls any teams that have not played a single game but that has been the case for many years. Both teams will undoubted be very good and will wind up in the top 10-15 slots pretty soon anyway.

Dartmouth is returning all of their top talent from a tournament team so that shouldn't be a surprise. Yes, it's by reputation, but so is every other early ranking. I had lost interest in recent years in the ECAC pre-season coaches' poll, but this year I paid attention because I expected us to move up. It's amazing what even a little optimism can do.............

Fair point on Dartmouth, they bring back a lot. We'll know more soon. They finally open with Alaska this weekend and Cornell gets Sacred Heart. The home-and-home with Union is the one I'm watching.
