UMaine '26-'27: The Bridge On the River Stillwater

The sign of a good team is when you have an off night and still win. Not just win, but shut the opponent down completely. Despite five power play chances it never felt like Colgate was a threat. PWS had a 24-save shutout that required him to make only three stops in the middle stanza despite three power plays and a minute of 3x5. Would like to see Grade A scoring opportunities because I can't imagine Colgate had more than a handful.

That second period was miserable to watch, but Maine didn't break. Gotta give them credit for that. Not sure how Colgate only had 3 SOG in that period.

Too many silly stick infractions and they definitely got bailed out with the embellishment calls.

Wickstrom Stumer's shutout is the 100th in program history as well.

Goalie was fantastic. Maine looked slow with no juice but found a way to win thanks to Wickstrom Stumer. The lineup was odd again. I dont get the constant line changes.

really liked the goalie, seems very nonchalant , no wasted movement, takes up a lot of space. 2nd period very choppy, 3rd much better. Going to be a tough game tonight, boys best be ready.

Yeah there were stretches in the second where they struggled to even get a tape to tape pass. The parade to the penalty box didn’t help either. So far they’ve shown a penchant to be called for penalties in bunches. Winning 3-0 despite their overall play is a good sign however. Colgate played with a lot of effort and looked different than the team UNH played last weekend.

Is it my TV or are the ESPN+ cameras wack tonight? Most seem to be insanely dark and then a couple seem to have the brightness level cranked to 11. It's giving me a headache.

Maine already shorthanded and then forget how to count. 5x3 for Colgate for almost a minute.
Maine's broadcast is generally bad. The lighting of the building doesn't help, but the cameras are never usually balanced to one another. The audio quality is abysmal (listen to Mannix do a game way from Alfond and it's far less grating).

It also doesn't help they don't refresh the ice marking on a regular basis or clean the glass ever, but I'll let FB take care of those complaints.

To me Stumer was the story, great to see that quality of play from him. The outlook for the season goaltending is looking much brighter with Boija and Stumer.
Defense is looking like they will be solid. I saw some great defensive clearing of colgate players trying to hang around the net. Something we have lacked. Maine could be tough to score against as the season progresses.

Was sloppy at times but Maine was never in danger of losing that game.

Not sure why Makway sat last night, he was great against QU. Feels like Komarov and Pichette are in the doghouse and James may be getting a little too much ice time. Feels like this is Maine’s deepest team in years, there are quality players in the stands each night.

I'm not drawing too many conclusions from last night, Colgate is probably the worst team Maine has played so far. Maine absolutely needs to clean up the penalties, they were trying to give the game away last night. Nice to still get a fairly easy win when they're not playing well, Parks/Scott/Gerrior is a great line and Isa Parekh has been such a pleasant surprise. Remember, someone on here thought this was going to be the worst top 6 forward group since the 80's.

I really liked when Barr put out a trio of the big boys in the third: Klimpke/Lipinski/Alfano. Wouldn't mind seeing that line stick together for a full game as L3.

Maine has a good problem with a bunch of capable forwards that can play on any given night. Gotta think Makway and Pichette will be in tonight. Thought Makway and Campbell looked good together in practice on Thu.

I didn't love what I saw from Lafton/Siciliano last night. Both got lost in their own end a couple times and think they both ended up in the box for holding penalties. Imagine with Romaine out one of them will sit for Langlois.

The glass is horrific. The athletic department should be embarrassed that they started a season with glass looking like that. A $50 million renovation but ignoring easy fixes for fan friendly stuff is not a good look.....especially at the current ticket prices.

What is the story with Langlois? Only 2 games played of 5. Romaine was 3 of 4 before injury.
I think part of it is that Maine has a lot of options on the LH side so even with dressed an extra D there will be a couple as the odd men out.

The ice time seems to rate out that Barr trusts Langlois a bit more to handle a larger workload as he's averaging 13:39/gm, as opposed to Siciliano (8:33/gm), Lafton (9:22/gm), and Romaine (9:46/gm). Haven't gotten my hands on any advanced percentile metrics yet to see where any of them are at but I'd imagine since we still have such a small sample of games that the data will be all over the place.
