UMaine '26-'27: The Bridge On the River Stillwater

Objectively they played well, arguably better than Q, but frustrating to lose like that even if you were the underdog going in. I wasn't that impressed with Russell tonight. Also was wondering out loud to myself why Peterson wasn't out there in the final 20 seconds, I think hes our best player already and should have been out there. If they play like this again tomorrow, they might have a better outcome.

Crappy night for Hockey East.
Maine lost at home to Q, Lowell lost at home to Clarkson, Boston College lost at home to Alaska and UMass tied at home against RIT. Vermont lost at Bentley. The only wins were UConn over Pedo State and Providence hammering St Lawrence.

Hockey East has really been floundering in the NIL era. UConn might end up being elite but in general the league has been depressing recently.

Russell and Fowler need step it up. Parks and Makway played well.

Certainly can’t fault the effort. Qpac was nowhere close to the level they were at last weekend and it’s too bad not to take advantage of it. I have a feeling Maine won’t be as fortunate tomorrow night.

One mild point of criticism…I wouldn’t have called timeout at the end of the game. Qpac was all over the shop at that point and the timeout benefited them more than Maine.

Stay classy, Michigan. Score a tenth goal (to go up 10-1) with 30 seconds to go and get rung up for taunting. Wow. Score that goal in the pros and you'll be visiting your dentist.

Can't fault the effort tonight, it's a shame two defensive lapses ended up in the back of our net... but if this is the baseline as to how they play at home, they're going to be real fun to watch as the season progresses.

Also, how about that pregame show the Marketing staff put on tonight? Quite the spectacle, and it got the Ol' Girl going early.

Really liked the way Makway played. Good balance of physicality and some skilled puckhandling on some of the rush chances he got. The fourth line put together the most consistent shifts throughout the game.

The defensive effort is there which will be definitely need but hope offense comes along as these players get more comfortable with each other. Kirsch played really well in net. QU capitalized on the mistakes and made Maine pay in what was a winnable game against a top-10 team.

I get changing lines out and sitting with the puck in your own end, but there were some frustrating moments in that game. That 15-20 seconds of dawdling on the PP in the third really sapped all the momentum of that 5x3. Can't have that when goals are at a premium against a very quality opponent. Have to show a bit more urgency.
