UNH Hockey Off Season Thread 2026

Recovering from an extended stretch in the hospital for an unexpected and life threatening surgery, my recovery goal is to be able to walk into the Whit without the aid of a wheel chair, scooter or crutches for the MSU series.

After a summer of no golf, 187 staples in my leg and countless sleepless nights contemplating a potential amputation, UNH hockey cannot come soon enough to distract me from the pain and rehab of relearning how to walk.

A huge thanks to Ref and Chuck for supporting me throughout this journey and keeping my spirits up during some really dark days.

Very sorry to hear about your rough summer, but I’m glad to hear you are on the mend. Always appreciated your insight and opinions on the program, and I’m glad to see you back online here!

I hope your recovery continues throughout the fall and winter, and let’s all hope that lots of winning hockey can expedite the process!

So very sorry to hear about this! Please get well soon!

GrouchyCat, sorry to hear about the summer surgery. Sending prayers thru the cosmos for a quick return to health.

On MS7, easier to be friends with a cupcake coach than one that you are constantly battling for wins and recruits. Those are usually the ones you become friendly with after the fact when the animosity fades and the respect (that was there all along) is allowed to be shown.

An interesting angle on the coaches poll and where MS7 is voted vs all the "Great Coach" accolades that get sent his way. There was some decently successful football coach that said at some point "you are what your record says you are."

Sooo whats the proposed line up for the opener? Dan...Watcher...any ideas? And as usual the delay with naming the Captains...as I type its prob been announced but what/why does it seem to take so long for this announcement. I mean we all know it's most likely Marty. Anyhoo... bring it on!

YIKES!!!!

Keep at that recovery... you will get there

Bill Parcells - 2 time super bowl champion, 183-138-1 (.570) NFL Coaching Record, NFL Hall of Fame Coach (1 of 29) .... maybe a little better than "decently successful"

NHL teams are already well into their training camps and exhibition schedules, and there's no indication that JvR has signed even a PTO, anywhere.

Gotta think it's finally over. I believe TvR is currently in camp with the Penguins.

TvR is with the Pens..he and his bros have been developing their vRHockey brand alot this Summer running camps.

The Hockey East preseason poll always smacks of pro-Boston bias AND recency bias, so no surprises here. FWIW Merrimack winning last year WAS a fluke.

MS7 is gonna be out of a job if he doesn't get the team to the Boston phase of the HEA Tourney. I mean, if Merrimack can do it (and win it), why not UNH?

Unused excuses remain thin on the ground, and getting thinner ...
Just some fodder and another view point...

So RMS Hockey (Ryan Sikes) has been attempting to build Bayesian models for the NCAA Hockey Season. I haven't paid close attention to if/how he has done in the past.

Here is how his models "composite rankings" score hockey east... it will be interesting to follow to see how this works out.

UNH Write Up:
New Hampshire enters 2026-27 with a composite score of 15.44, returning 57% of last year’s group and boasting the third-highest depth rating (6.82) in the conference.

Up front, St. Lawrence transfer Rasmus Svartstrom (0.67 PPG) and returning forward Nick Ring (0.66 PPG) give the Wildcats a dual-threat at the top of the lineup. Ryan Johnson (0.51 PPG), Martins Lavins (0.49 PPG), Jacob Newcombe (0.45 PPG), Mason Zebeski (0.44 PPG), and Cam MacDonald (0.43 PPG) form one of the deepest returning forward groups in Hockey East. Defenseman Parker Von Richter (0.43 PPG) brings offensive instincts from the blue line as well.

The freshman class features defenseman Parker Von Richter (0.43 PPG) as the projected top incoming scorer, with Emile Guite (0.39 PPG) among the more impactful freshman players to keep close tabs on.

Sacred Heart transfer Teagan Kendrick projects as the top-rated goaltender, while Providence transfer Michael Simpson projects well, giving UNH a formidable one-two punch in net.

No idea how RMS Hockey (Ryan Sikes) models work.... just interesting during a slow pre season period

This would assume any level of forward thinking... you are confused (;)), it is ALL about this year.
Perhaps part of Souza thinks he may also “graduate” with these guys at the end of the season.

I think it’s gonna take at least a top 4 finish in HE or a Cinderella run in the tournament akin to Merrimack last year to save his job.

Not sure if anyone else here has watched any of UNH football. Rich’s final coaching hire has not looked too good early on this season… Getting blown out at home by Harvard and losing to an Albany team that won all of 2 games last year.

He’s young and will certainly be given a leash, but hopefully the new boss can pick ‘em a bit better than Rich, or at least not rely so heavily on retired coaches’ opinions…
