At the end of the day, they are both great goalies. Not to take away from McNaughton, but a goalie on a weaker team that maintains that save percentage is way more impressive to me. McNaughton might get the championships, but Gascon deserves her individual accolades.

The record isn't that important, but her only beating UW once says a lot. UW certainly does not put 50 sog a game up against UMD, so it isn't like she's forced to stand on her head every game against them. Usually the sog allowed by UMD against UW is upper 20's low 30's.

Ava doesn't deserve individual accolades?

I hope this debate comes to a head in the Olympics someday.

Aside from the lopsided sided shot count, if advanced goalie stats were kept we’d be able to see a clearer overall picture. GSAx (goals saved above expected) would be a very interesting stat to see between these two.
 
Games! We have games this weekend.

TWSNBN at Ped St. - quite the titanic 2 v 4 match-up.
RPI at MSU - MSU is ranked 14th. Nice
NH at St. Thomas -
UW at St. Lawrence -
Mercyhurst at UMD - #15 vs #9.
UConn at St. Cloud - UConn is #7

Usually I root for the wcha teams, but not in the 2 v 4, though I really dislike PSU now and I have an axe to grind against UMD, so go UConn.

I think that's why it gets judged the way it does. Much more was asked of Gascon in the past, so she got more credit for her team's success, even though it was much more limited. No matter how many saves McNaughton made, she was still playing behind the best offense in the country. Give up a couple of goals? "No problem; we'll get them back." When Gascon gave up a couple early, it quickly became, "We'll get 'em tomorrow."

Maybe we're looking at this wrong. The first day, that 1 was a digit. Another 2-1 win, would produce another one-goal differential. Because they'd be the same, the second could be a double for the first.

Al Davis had that "just win, baby" saying, but in the world of NCAA women's hockey and OT, tOSU just two-thirds won.
