Platforms are marketing, they are not about compromising. You lay out what you'd do in a perfect world where you're fully in charge of all branches of government.

There is nothing wrong with running on a full-throated, left-wing platform, even if some of those policy goals are obviously a way off. Stop running scared and punch back, for fucks' sake.
 
Hiring cops who aren't fucking meathead morons? Can't have that, would hurt their fee-fees.
Universal healthcare? Can't have that, would hurt insurance executives' fee-fees.
Stronger unions? Can't have that, unfair to management.
Taxing wealth? Can't do that, they create jerbs!
 
Trying to compare the races of Troy Vs the Epstein bro Suzie and Gideon vs concerned Suzie isn't going to work. One is a tried and true native Mainuh, the other(Gideon) not so much. I see discussions on Reddit about Troys lack of Charisma, like Suzie is full of it ?. If he hits the road like Platner did and connects with people in town halls he has a chance. I'm headed to the first one he has around me, assuming he understands why Platner became popular.

That does seem to be a big difference - i think i posted earlier that Gideon was a millionaire transplant from Rhode Island who lives in Freeport (which i think is. In that sense i would think Troy will have a better ability to make many Mainers think he can identify with their struggles.

To name a few:

- Eliminating the senate
- Fully Abolishing police and prisons
- Eliminating borders entirely
- Housing becomes government provided (Reading the platform it is unclear if you could even purchase your own home)
- Eliminating the department of defense

Now who knows what is actually real on the internet - but from what i can see on their website (and the Megan Romer interview seems to confirm) that the DSA platform includes all of the above.

I think the majority of the country would find those abhorrent. Like Scooby, i lean left on many issues but what DSA lays out in their platform seems very extreme.

I think this is especially true in 2nd district, may not matter as much in northern Mass :)

Other countries do just fine without militarized police forces patrolling their neighborhoods and executing citizens for grave crimes like playing with a toy gun, carrying a cell phone or having a tail light go out. Entire police forces for other countries don't expend as much ammunition as our police do in a single incident. And other countries are able to house criminals without building massive prisons that suck up resources that could be diverted elsewhere. Of course, when this gets suggested, certain people are quick to point out that many of these countries have a "homogenized" culture which is a fancy way of saying we have too many Black and Brown people.

Borders are just lines on a map.

We already have government housing, just on a very limited basis. Let's take the millions of homes currently held empty by private equity to drive real estate prices up and put those back on the market - or just let people live in them. We have far more empty homes than homeless people in this country.

We can't eliminate the Department of Defense because the child rapist war criminal already did that. Didn't you hear? It's the Department of War now.

I think that is exactly what Drew is saying. If there were more candidates they could be more selective.

But let’s be honest… “defund the police” was a stupid concept and probably cost democrats many elections.
