2026 Coaching Changes

He got canned, so I don't think he had a choice. I'd be interested in why he chose 'Cuse. I would think Maine is a better job, not that he applied for it. I don't recall any other H/C jobs that are open.
No idea what he'll be making or even how interested the Orange are in women's hockey, but all things being equal, Maine can't pay like Cuse, I don't think.

If the league didn't control the hiring of all coaches he would have probably had a choice. Firing an expansion team coach after one season seems a little extreme when the coaching pool is small in my opinion. Did they hire a replacement? Curious why in your opinion the Maine job is better.

I got into a back-and-forth on Twitter with some guy who was trashing Idalski as a coach, based only on his year in the PWHL. That prompted me to have a look at the Syracuse roster, who is back this coming year, what they gained and lost in the portal etc (as best I could tell, anyway). Goalie with decent numbers is back, a good percent of goal-scoring back. Penn State won't be as good as last year. I think Syracuse and Idalski could do pretty well in AH. Not that they're gonna win it or anything. But better than .500. Maybe third, maybe threaten second? I'll be interested to see.

As someone who sees a bunch of RIT games every year, basically, the AHA has become Penn State and everyone else (with Delaware lagging in the background in their first year). The order of everyone else varies from year to year (though Mercyhurst has kind of been in between Penn State and everyone else). And that variation isn't much in talent differences -- it usually comes down to some lucky wins or losses and any hot/cold streaks. No one impresses over anyone in that "everyone else" group.

That is my biggest question. Maybe they pay a lot, being Syracuse, despite not taking hockey seriously. But they aren't going to pull an Ohio State (do well despite a dump of a rink) for lots of reasons.

Better league, an easier path to the NCAA's. You can get an at large bid out of Hockey East. Maine is way more of a hockey school.
I think your view is tainted by the men's program at Maine and lack of men's program at Syracuse. The women are only getting 500 a game attendance. Doesn't scream hockey school to me. Only 3 teams in Hockey East had above 500 records last year. Current version both leagues don't seem very good outside of Penn State.

Can an opinion be tainted? It's not "facts" like BB posts LOL, it's the thoughts in my head based on what I perceive as reality; a mix of objectivity and subjectivity. I'm not trying at all to be difficult or mad, it's an interesting discussion. I love the word tainted by the way. "Tainted Love" is a top 10 favorite song of all time. It's playing in my noggin right now. Thank you.

Maine is more of a hockey school than Cuse. Not saying Maine is a HUGE hockey school like THE hockey school of UW, but it's more of one than Cuse. Cuse has D1 FB and BB that are recognizable entities, what does Maine have?

The original version or the 1981 version? 🤣
Holy Crap! The Gloria Jones 1964 version is 1000% better than I thought it was going to be, really excellent. Of course I was - 4 years old then, so I was referring to the 1981 Soft Cell version. I just watched the Soft Cell video 1981 video for the first time....that was interesting. I didn't get MTV 1986ish and by then I had moved from from early 80's new wave / A Flock Of Seagulls to Dokken and White Lion. The first album by AFOS is top 3 all time for me though.

How many women's teams average more than 500 per game? Genuinely curious.
