Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

You really nailed it.

I understand the school is experiencing hard times financially, that’s completely obvious. The problem I have is that a few months ago we were told ticket prices needed to be raised to improve the competitiveness of the team, student athlete experience, whatever else. That clearly was not true and Barr’s statement backs that up. I am not a season ticket holder and don’t have any skin in the game, but if I was I would be pretty irritated by the conflicting information.
The only thing that's "clearly not true" here is you claiming to be a Maine fan. You contradict yourself constantly to try to shit on the program ever since Guite was passed over for Barr (which was "clearly" the right decision).

They have the second best recruiting class on paper in over 15 years coming in this year. They have the 5th first round draft pick in program history coming in next year. That's "clearly" putting a competitive team together to anyone who doesn't blindly hate the program.

Nailed it.

I suspect we define being a fan differently, which is fine. I’m certainly not a kool-aid drinker and have never been one. I strongly disagree with how their revenue push has been presented to fans and not really sure why that upsets you so much.

I think Barr has his strengths and weaknesses. There are some things he has done a tremendous job with, and I have said as much, and also areas where I think he could improve. I definitely do not hate him and if I saw him on the street would shake his hand and wish him well.

I count 28; is this the player cap- are we 100p finalized? Also can Krebs be reclassified if Maine ends up wanting him back?

We shall see if its competitive. Walsh and Standbrook made Maine a place to come play College hockey but the game has changed with NIL. Its going to be much harder and take more resources in todays world. Coaches now have to not only to know Xs and Os but also how to get the cash to bring in players. Then it becomes how to get the team to buy in with someone getting more cash than you are. I'd say its much tougher now than it was in the heyday years.

Who exactly would be a better coach for this team *right now*? I understand the need to not be a complete Homer but lets be clear: the renovations would not have happened as quick without him. The team wouldn't be selling out and have a huge waiting list. Last year sucksd but we just came off winning Hockey East. This year I think you are going to see the type of team Barr likes to coach and will see a different personality behind the bench. Let's see what happens but everything inside the arena right now points to this team could be really good.

Too bad the Amtrak doesn't go to Bangor. We could do a fan train

Most people like to travel in a timely manner. Passenger rail in America doesn’t provide that. Besides, the Downeaster doesn’t connect to the rest of the Northeast Corridor, the Orange Line doesn’t count.

It clearly is true and there’s no conflicting information. The study showed that ticket prices were under market value and the University raised them accordingly. Not only did people pay it, but nobody even got off the waitlist. More revenue means more to invest in the program. More non-conference home games means more revenue to invest in the program. Only two non-conference road trips also mean fewer expenses that can be invested elsewhere into the program.

If Colgate doesn't require reciprocal visits again, next year will be 2@Q, 2@Miami, Portland and five more home NC games (AHA and ECAC opponents). And season tickets will still sell out.*

(* unless the economy turns to shit and we revert back to 2008 or 1929...)

I still think that they should have incorporated a seating expansion into the Alfond renovation. The entire club area and upper grandstand seating and balcony should have been demolished. They could have doubled the club level seating capacity on the South end and done an expanded horseshoe encompassing the entire rest of the arena. I would have made the North end all steep bench seating from the glass to the top row (like UNH does). Say they had added 200 club level seats and another 1K chairback seats for season ticket holders/general public. That's 200 x $2K = $400K + 1K x $500 = $500K = +$900K per season.

I was shocked when I went into Alfond a few weeks ago, first time since 24 25 season. So I had really no idea what it looked like in the arena itself. 40, 50 million spent and it looked pretty much the same where the fans who support the program sit. I didn't go into locker rooms or Shawn Walsh area of building,

We usually have friends and family at our house for Thanksgiving. Its the best holiday IMHO of the year. My kid was just here and I told him about Cornell game and he wants to go. I can't wait to see when game is, Hopefully its on Saturday, then we can do a meal at Home and then a game MSG.

The locker rooms/Shawn Walsh area is where the majority of the cash was spent. And personally? I like it that way. Cause I guarantee that with the way building codes are today, any "improvements" done to the seating bowl would've been all screwed up off the hop. Besides, the back-of-house improvements are what's going to score us recruits. Not some plush club seating area.

True but....it's also not going to increase revenue outside of raising ticket prices every year.

You think codes don't apply in that part of the building? Whats going to generate recruits is NIL and winning

They could of at least expanded the bathrooms for us paying customers. Fan experience right?
They are spending a bundle on the bball arena and some walkway thing, but we have to stand in line that stretches down the hall for the bathroom.
