Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Second weekend is now off the table. Maine will be playing at Lowell on Friday the 11th.

Maine hosts them Jan 22/23
This makes sense as Lowell was in Portland midweek last December.

Maybe they play in Portland on the way back that weekend?

Yeah why does it feel like Maine is out of the recruiting loop? Did not expect this under Barr with new facility renovations. I feel like other top programs are eating Maine’s lunch in regard to paying players. We know that Maine is not in a position to open up their wallet but I’m wondering if bad word of mouth regarding Barr’s personality or coaching is starting to seep into recruiting circles.
Seems like a stretch to think that bad reputation is at play when Maine has had one of the longer stockpiles of commitments.

Wouldn't surprise me if the uncertainty at play with the age-based eligibility model has left a lot of potential recruits holding on committing to play college hockey while that has been finalized.

I also think that a lot more of this is quiet, closed door chats with official agents now instead of someone's dad or uncle or other unofficial advisor who runs to blab about every communication and offer they get

Could be, hope not.
I feel like some of it is Maines play style isnt that attractive to skill guys.
Also lack of program success, 2 HE and NCAA appearances in what 12-15 years or whatever its been.
The facilities affect might be overrated. Certainly old crappy ones could be a non starter. New ones that stack up with most everyone else just puts you on level ground.

Wisconsin last played in Alfond on 2 December 1988 (interlocking WCHA schedule) and haven't played Maine since the NCAA Frozen Four in 2006. Why are we assuming the Badgers are coming to town?

crazy, i remember that game vividly. Two years in a row where we ran up against incredibly hot goalies in Elliott and the diminutive Jeff Lerg.

I'm not assuming anything....simply trying to decipher who is left for October weekends. Nothing in October has been announced yet and very few possibilities remain.

Thinking now that Maine owes a return trip to Colgate so Wisconsin is probably unlikely. Probably going to be Stonehill (10/2-10/3), @ Colgate (10/9-10/10), BYE (10/16-10/17), Quinnipiac (10/23-10/24) & TBA (December game in Portland)

10/2-10/3:

Bentley
Holy Cross
RPI
Robert Morris
Stonehill
Wisconsin

10/9-10/10:

Army
Bentley
Colgate
Quinnpiac
Robert Morris
Stonehill

10/16-10/17:

St. Lawrence
Wisconsin

10/23-10/24

Alaska
Army
Colgate
Quinnipiac
St. Lawrence
Wisconsin

Well at least you got the bye weekend correct, Jeff.

Only 33 games listed, no mention of Cornell at MSG (yet?).
