RPI 06-07..."Houston, we have a problem"

Will Houston Field House see any sort of revival for the Engineers in the coming season? There seems to be reason to believe in incremental improvement, but maybe no big forward strides. We are graduating only 3 forwards and one D. All strong performers but in particular hate to see us lose the gritty play of Christoff. Lots of incoming players (thanks as always to Ralph Baer...see the RPI recruit thread on the men's page). Four forwards, four D and one goalie. I haven't had time to check them all out, but nobody stands out. Have we ever recruited anyone from the Canada or US U18 teams or prospect lists? Kaylynn Fisher, captain of Kingston Ice Wolves seems certain to be a solid add to our D, but I know little about the other recruits. Anyone have better info?

Hab: Agree with what you have said in both threads posted. Same old Same old. Until there is some sort of major change at the top of the program there will be very little for us to talk about otherwise. If anything, we lost some real grit from this past season even though only a few ladies graduated. Davidson will provide quite a bit if she stays but we will need a lot more in the always tough and competitive ECAC

Always like to get your perspective Dr. D. I haven't yet focused on the incoming class. Hope to see some gems there, but based on recent experience, not optimistic.

...Bill Cahill was well known amongst the top teams in Canada and Western US, even though he only represented a D3 team. We need to have that kind of recruiting presence again.

Hab: All true. Recruiting is indeed the biggest part of the job but utilizing the talent you have on ice and being able to make adjustments between periods and even on the fly during play also very important. There has been so much that has not been done or has been done wrong over the past few years that it is hard to know even where to start.

When you see Wensley leave, Skoda gone and Trnova gone - all in the past 2 years, you can pretty much guess at the motivations. I give a world of credit to those who have stayed for the full 4 years and we lost some real talent and grit with graduation this year.

Has anyone seen the pre-conference schedule? In recent years we have seemed to have trouble lining up games with strong teams.

Why would any strong team waste their time and money playing RPI when they already know what the outcome will be before they even step on the ice, and it does nothing for their rankings. In fact, playing RPI would hurt them in the rankings.

Really? Are there no cupcake eaters out there in the Women's Hockey world? You would think one or two coaches would like an easy introduction to the season.

I've always wondered how the n/c schedules get filled in. The phone is a 2 way thing, right? I would think a cupcake would like to get their team to play in a great link like UW's for instance. Playing in front of 5000 people in 1 weekend is probably more than they will have watch them play the rest of their careers. Of course UW is a unique experience.
