UNH Hockey Off Season Thread 2026

It would be appreciated by most on this thread if U Maine 91 and your buddy go back to to your own thread and stop making this one a political shit show. Your TDS is off the charts and the cafe will be a perfect place for your immature dribble.
Chuck and I have gone back and forth since USCHO was started in the 90s.

Its pretty obvious UNH didn't do you any favors

This one is UNH hockey related. After the recent voting, Maine will also update their flag. AND they are seriously looking to annex the city of Berlin just west in NH as a potential capital city replacement for Augusta (Bonn on the Kennebec??). UNH hockey has a long history with players from Berlin, including their very first All American Rod Blackburn, the pride of Notre Dame HS in the city. The Berlin to Durham pipeline has run a bit dry of late, but rumors last week had our own MS7 visiting to either re-prime the hockey well*, or rally the citizenry against the annexation**.

If any state in New England becomes a Nazi state.....I think we all know which one it will be......Alabama of the North. Old Man on the Mountain crumbling was a very appropriate metaphor for where NH was heading.....☹️

Just a reminder for anyone here who is planning to apply for the UNH AD position, applications are due by 4 pm, June 12th, I think.
Fixed your post, Snives. January 2026 has long since come and gone, and a deadline on that date would have been prescient, even Nostradamus like ...

Chuck and I have gone back and forth since USCHO was started in the 90s.
Yes, we have. And many times we have agreed to disagree, and life goes on.

Too many young'uns seem to view politics as bloodsport nowadays. Those on the right experienced this during the Alinsky-driven Obama and Hilary (his would be successor) years, and now those on the left point to Trump/MAGA, which most independent thinkers understand was the reaction to the Obama overreach.

Obama and his team have since enjoyed a third bite at the apple (a/k/a President Magoo), and the second Trump term was again a reaction to that farce.

That's a pretty objective take anyone can make, without riling up anyone other than the true believers/Kool-Aid drinkers on both sides of the aisle.

Problem for Team Blue is that "orange man bad" has somehow managed to outflank you folks, to the point where core Democrat beliefs include allowance of unchecked immigration, no common-sense limits on transgender surgery or consulting with parents before age of majority, and allowance of biological males to compete unquestioned in female sports. As is often discussed, these are 80/20 issues, and the guy you hate so much is usually (if not always) in the 80% camp.

That's not his problem BTW. The core beliefs of the former Democrat party have been hijacked by a lot of craziness, or when crazy doesn't fit, try silliness even.

Wally, the above is not specifically directed at you, as I honestly don't know where you stand on most of this ... but I sincerely worry for you if you truly think the so-called MSM (let's say ABC, NBC, CBS, NYT, CNN, WaPo, etc.) is even close to leaning right. Has Bari Weis' replacement of a small sample of 60 Minutes and newsreader talking heads at CBS turned that ship around to MAGA Light?? Not even close, as Weis is still a dyed in the wool liberal who at least seems to be willing to question the direction of her former (NYT) and current (CBS) employer as they've consistently alienated half of potential customers needlessly at a time when both of those medias have every reason to be objective and serve ALL potential customers, lest they perish given the new media competition.

BTW that applies to Fox and smaller right channels/"newspapers" as well ... but Fox has the advantage to being way closer to center than the competition at this moment. That hasn't always been the case ... but it is now. Their ratings have increased, while former MSM outlets have lost a ton, across the board.

Long and short, in the end, there's been an increasing pushback within Normal America (moderates on both sides) against Woke narratives, and DJT has made the most of that opportunity, so don't shoot the messenger here. So far, the Lefty-ridden Democrat party has chosen to double down on these losing issues. Not smart. And by the sounds of things, your recently nominated Senatorial candidate is poised to continue that losing streak. But that's your vote, not mine.

As to the "incursion" onto the UMaine thread ... I did come over and asked some pretty generic questions about what real Mainers thought about the situation, and there was some respectful give-and-take about the relative virtues of incumbent Collins (who is quite far from Trump-friendly lol) and her challenger, and then our new fave UMaine poster upped the ante with the usual "everyone I disagree with is a Nazi" BS, which they have since continued to post over here.

So I'm always up for a debate, hockey or otherwise, and I'll always listen to the other side. At times, the other side has been persuasive ... but that seems like a very long time ago. Going over to the Cafe (a/k/a the Faculty Lounge) as a conservative is not a warm and fuzzy experience, but I do still go over there once in a while, but our best chance of finding any moderates there is akin to finding a polar bear in the rainforest. More of those people are here, so I post here.

Once hockey issues come to the fore, I'm the happiest person in the room to stand down and drop the politics stuff. It's a "go with the flow" thing ... :)

All the major media outlets are owned by Billionaires, they are nothing but propaganda outlets for whatever the 1% wants us to know or not know. Those you mentioned are hardly left leaning or Trumps FCC would threaten to take their licenses

Ruth White run yesterday, not her best but competing at a National level is still a great accomplishment

But billionaires these days are hardly exclusive to conservativism, wally. You sound like the hopelessly outdated Robert Reich (lefty Cafe idol), who assumes anyone even the slightest bit to his right is a conservative lol. Is Jeff Bezos MAGA? LOL hardly. How's about ABC with Clinton lackey George Stepahopoulus running editorial policy there?? The NYT is MAGA??? Bari Weis (now at CBS) was drummed out of the NYT because she wouldn't jump onto the Woke dogma unconditionally, because ... y'know, a lot of it just doesn't make sense???? Heck, Elon used to be a left-leaning liberal ... but being the genius he is, he couldn't make Woke Liberalism 2020 make sense, so he evolved into a conservative leaning genius. Happens a lot, even with us normies ... as the old adage (which has never been truer) goes, if you're young and not liberal, you have no heart ... but if you're older and not conservative, you have no brain. wally, there's still time left for you to see the light, mon ami ...

Agreed. Just getting onto the national stage as a college frosh is a great start. Next year she cracks the Top Ten, and after that, the sky's the limit. (y)

Your use of the swastika is outrageous and stupid. There’s nothing humorous about your post.

As for Maine politics, it’s their choice but there’s so little to choose from. Two term Collins, whose legacy is little more than lying which I suppose makes her a nice fit for Trump. Or Platner, who’s ignorant. In the vituperative environment of local and national politics, the best candidates, even the good ones, stay on the sidelines.

Just one of the many reasons that the politicized UNH threads are the laughing stock of the entire USCHO Fan Forum, and the reason that so many UNH fans no longer post in this toxic environment.

The only reason that symbol is being lampooned by Whalers in his post is because in a case of staggering, mind-bending irony, the political party that has made its practice to accuse everyone they disagree with as a "Nazi" has just nominated a candidate with an actual "Nazi" symbol tattooed onto his chest.

Not surprisingly, vast chunks of the left leaning MSM have chosen to push the more recent "GOP woman pushes partisan sex abuse narrative", which of course not only ignores other less partisan accusations of the same conduct, while raising questions about whatever happened to "Me Too" narrative and its "believe all women" edict. All while ignoring the tattooed symbol on a national candidate's chest, or dismissing it as a relic of his prior "dark times" lol

Agreed, this is a choice for Mainers to make on their representation, as I've said before. But with all due respect, this is "what about-ism" at its worst, to equate Whalers' use of the altered Maine flag to jab at those supporting a candidate with a history of backing that cause, to that candidate's own actions. Especially with one of the UMaine posters frequently dropping the "Nazi" accusation at those s/he disagrees with (shocking not), but not called out for it.

Just one of the many reasons that the politicized UNH threads are the laughing stock of the entire USCHO Fan Forum, and the reason that so many UNH fans no longer post in this toxic environment.
Snives, you know I love you man, and like with wally, I respect our differences, and appreciate much more what we do have in common.

First, I don't necessarily care what other folks in other threads may or may not think of the content of our thread. Most other fan bases would gladly suffer some off-topic discussion in exchange for the volume and diversity (ack!) of content that's exchanged on this thread, and others before (and hopefully after).

I'll also point out the obvious, which is, if what you say is indeed true, then both the USCHO UNH thread and UNH's hockey program are circling the drain together. Fitting, and perhaps not at all coincidental. Winning begets winning ... losing begets losing, and a lot of other distractive behavior. Sad but true.

I am happy Potluck has lately taken down the temperature in this room, and I think most folks on here would agree. But to the extent "politics" has gotten a ton of attention in this thread and its predecessor, I do feel compelled to gently remind folks that Potluck has (for the better part of the last year-plus):

(1) come forward very often/forcefully with strong opinions that politics and off-ice issues beyond the HC are to blame for UNH's recent demise; and
(2) as a non-NH resident, he has at times been quite judgmental about NH public policy issues, unlike his laissez fair take on life in Maine noted above

Positions and opinions BTW that he's very much entitled to air, and even when I've disagreed, I've not then - and not now - argued he is not entitled to do so.

I don't want to relitigate the last year-plus, especially where we've seen that temperature come down lately. But we are where we are as a group because of our shared experiences here, and to single out Whalers' post, my various retorts and/or other off-topic discussions in these latest posts, is disingenuous.

Happy Monday lol. With the applications due date apparently now having come and gone, let's hope for some insight into the new AD hiring process soon.

And congrats to the Carolina Hurricanes, who are now deserved Stanley Cup champions after an impressive postseason run. 🏆

Hey Fluffer, not my use. That was from the Babylon Bee. A website that is somewhat successful dealing in Satire, you know pointing out things that are 'Ironical', to coin a Good Will Hunting reference (just so you are fully informed).

Isnt it Ironical that you get all b#tt hurt about satire but not the actual Totenkopf tattoo? Chuck points out that screaming Nazi, Nazi, Nazi about disagreements is an everyday sport, but covering up a concentration camp guard tattoo after 19 years is what? A youthful indiscretion?

Not funny? History is fun, and ironical.
- Annexing Berlin, NH to make it the Maine capital? Just like the in the unification of Germany they moved the capital back to Berlin.
- Replacing Augusta? Just like Unified Germany did to Bonn. And Augusta in on the Kennebec River.
- MS7 going to Berlin to pin his coaching hopes on the Damon Bailey of NH hockey? Thank you Felger for informing Fluffer about the Season on the Brink context. Surprised that Fluffer didnt accuse me of hanging out at 8th grade summer league games chatting up attendees to get inside scoop from Bantam level travel hockey parents on my fictitious player.

People, it's summer. What inside UNH hockey scoop or 9 second grainy videos of the next great 2028 recruit do we need to discuss? The other teams hockey threads are giving offseason workout updates about a new glute weight sled proven to improve stride power? Or maybe their program hasn't sucked over the last 10 years because they spit shine the updated terrazo and said weight sled is a 2025 model vs our 2023 version.

Chuck, does WIS have any good tales to spin?

Not funny? History is fun, and ironical.
My sense is you have very little understanding of American history. As for the swastika. You posted it. I am not saying you believe what it represents. Using it in humor is using it for your benefit. You should understand that. As for the babylon bee, funny site but sometimes it goes to far. If what you say is correct, a big mistake by the Bee.

The greatest economic engine New Hampshire has and has ever had is its proximity to Massachusetts. Full stop. Yes, a state that is small h hostile to immigrants and minorities will see relative test scores of grammar school children improve. The same thing happens if you don't educate children with academic disabilities. Look at the demographics of South Dakota and Utah. So what's your point?

Look I'm tired of knocking NH, because there's certainly things and a great many people that I like about the state. But it's a nearly zero visionary lifestyle. Without Massachusetts as its neighbor, NH is Mississippi. BTW, Mississippi grammar school test scores are among the best in the US. Look it up.

One response then back to hockey young pot-stirrer-

Yes, NH benefits from proximity to Massachusetts, however the actual trend is with migration from Massachusetts to NH, and they have been moving here steadily over the past decade. That's not what you see when one state is "failing" relative to the other- it's what you see when people perceive a better value proposition across the border. You are in the loud minority my friend...
