I don't think the reason why Idalski didn't get considered by Minnesota is because the PWHL job kept him too busy.
You can't just look at his numbers. When he was with the Sue, they were a team that had to be reckoned with.Sitting back to see who gets fired would be an odd way to fill an opening. His career record as a D-I coach is above .500, but not by enough to make him the target for most programs.
Understood. I watched the Gophers reckon with them for six periods one night. I think the way he ran his program in Grand Forks is similar to Muzzy in many way. He's a good coach, no question. Personally, I don't have any complaints with the staff that U of M wound up with this time. History can show whether or not that is yet another thing I got wrong. When he was with the Sue, they were a team that had to be reckoned with.
The Rochester Jr. Americans announced a hiatus from the NAHL for 2026-27 so it indeed looks like they aren't prepared to move forward with Francois Methot leaving for the FleetFrancois Methot is the new head coach of the Boston Fleet. Methot has been the head coach of the Tier 2 NAHL Rochester Jr Americans boys team, oversaw the entire 65 team Jr Americans organization and a skills coach who has worked with men's and women's players primarily from the western NY area as a private skills coach.
This could be a significant step back for girls hockey in a way as it is said there is no one in the wings to step up and take over the Jr. Americans org without him if he leaves that role behind him and it would mean the closure of the program.
There's some speculation that the Wegman family who owns the NAHL team are using Methot leaving as cover to pull the plug and that the real reason they want out now is that their son is done playing for the junior team and is off to Middlebury.Thank you for this interesting info - yes, it sounds like in this case one person leaving creates a notable gap, to a larger extent than would be the case with a college coach taking a PWHL role for example.
At least, per a comment on facebook on the Rochester news article (I couldn't get into the article), the pause is only the case for the NAHL team ("Please note this is only the Junior Rochester Jr. Americans NAHL team, not our very successful youth hockey program. We continue to be the largest organization in the NY District."). But the hires in the PWHL create a bunch of internal and external shuffling of people.
It was all bout their kid having a place to play…. Kid off to wallow in D3 obscurity and there is no need any longer to lose their asses in Rochester with a NAHL team. There's some speculation that the Wegman family who owns the NAHL team are using Methot leaving as cover to pull the plug and that the real reason they want out now is that their son is done playing for the junior team and is off to Middlebury.
