BU Recruiting Update--Part 5

While I think only about 3 players should depart for the pros after this season I could easily see it rise to 5-6
However if you look at recruits for next year there are supposedly 11 coming in
This either means more turning pro, others exploring the transfer portal or some deferring for a year
I am trying to come up with who is ready for the pros on this roster and I am coming up blank. I think there is a ton of talent that could use another year of development. Eiserman has come so far but I still think he could use another year.

NHL Central Scouting has issued its midterm rankings for the 2026 draft. Six Terrier recruits were ranked among North American skaters:
#5 Caleb Malhotra,
#7 Tynan Lawrence,
#17 Egor Shilov (photo),
#37 Luke Schairer,
#50 Braidy Wassilyn
#90 Rian Chudzinski.

2027 recruit Brady Knowling is the top-rated North American goalie.

The Athletic's comments:
Scott Wheeler: "Malhotra’s ranking (No. 5 in North America) aligns with what scouts have been saying about him for a while now: that he’s firmly in the top-five mix."
Cory Pronman: "Lawrence is a bit low for me. I had him No. 1 overall a few weeks ago, so obviously, I’m going to think seventh in North America is off. His offense may not be elite, but he’s a much better play driver than several of the players rated ahead of him due to his skating and work ethic."

Regarding Lawrence. (Still odd to see that name on the back of a jersey again. You know, #25... My son's health teacher. :) ) - He needs to get on the score sheet this coming weekend. Have drive and work ethic is fine and good, but... Teams don't draft based on drive and work ethic. Not in the Top 10 anyway.

Caleb Mallhotra and Braidy Wassilyn play in tonight's OHL Prospects Game tonight. 7 p.m. ET. Free stream on FloHockey's YouTube Channel. Malhotra has leapfrogged Tynan Lawrence on several draft rankings.
Luke Schairer and Jamie Glance (2027 recruit) will play in Thursday's Chipotle All-American Game at 7 p.m. ET NHL Network.

Just like in the CHL-USA series, Glance was impressive in the All-American Prospects Game. THN:
Although he isn't eligible for the NHL draft until next year, Jamie Glance was impressive all night long. He was one of Team Blue's most dangerous offensive players every time he stepped on the ice, accounting for most of their offensive generation through the first period and a half of the game. The Boston University commit has the shiftiness in tight areas and the speed in open ice to be a very impactful player.

Callum Hughes one of 11 listed recruits is now listed as Cornell recruit
Maybe less current players turning pro or entering transfer portal

Hockeysverige.se reporting: "Örebro looks set to lose one of the NHL Draft's most sought-after players. According to Expressen, Niklas Aaram-Olsen has chosen to leave for Boston University."

20-20-40 in 29 J20 Nationell games; 16 SHL games. 6'1", 187 LW projected to be a late first-round,early second draft pick. His hat trick in the U18 relegation game kept Norway in the top division for next year.

Do we know why Shilov isn't coming until 27/28?
Victoriaville announced this one themselves a week ago, him and his sidekick UConn commit Alexey Vlasov are going for round 2. Vlasov is smaller so there's that, but Shilov is a center which can take more time to mature. both are pretty young too

imo no need to rush them. they were a two-man show on a rebuilding team and im guessing the Tigres committed to get them more talent so they aren't so burdened with being the only legit producers. they were a little handcuffed from developing other parts of their game because of that reliance.

to illustrate how extreme that reliance was, they had 82 and 80 points respectively. the next closest teammates had 42.

Rogie21, how does BU opting in affect recruiting?

"Opt-in" schools can offer up to 26 full scholarships per team, eliminating the need to break scholarships into partial, 25% or 50% packages. This makes top-tier "opt-in" programs more attractive to recruits, as more players will receive full rides.

BU now has 14 forwards, 7 Ds and 3 goalies set for next season. If LD Xavier Villeneuve commits as is widely expected, that would bring the roster to 25, with one more slot to fill.
