UNH Hockey Off Season Thread 2026

I mostly agree with this, but I would find it hard to believe the AD cuts ties with MS7 if we make it to the garden, especially with our current ongoing drought in getting there. Perhaps if we get embarrassed when we get there I could see it.

After the last extension, I almost feel the current AD is just looking for a “good excuse” to extend the coaches. They know Souza is cheap and the Whitt isn’t totally empty on game day (a far cry from what it used to be though…).

You mentioned Herrion, but I almost wonder if he is the outlier here. Perhaps Rich wanted to make a splashy move in her first season as AD?

One has to wonder if Souza’s contract was up at that time, would she have cut him instead? That 2022-2023 season was a disaster to say the least…

To be clear, I agree with you that hardware should be required as a prerequisite to talk about an extension. In reality though, I’m just not sure the bar is that high for MS7 to get another few years in Durham.

Perhaps the “bar” will change with a new AD, we can certainly hope so!
I think you answered your own question there at the end ... and based on a lot of the rumblings I'm hearing from very credible sources (i.e. neither potty, nor the chorus of voices rattling around in his empty noggin) the current AD isn't going to be here in Titletown much longer. Here's to hoping, right??

Buford: it’s not Mike Souza’s fault that you have been a failure in your own life. Souza built a good life for himself. Apparently it’s too late for you to improve your life. He’s made more money at UNH than you made in your life. He has more friends than you could ever hope to meet .

Focus on yourself and improve your life. Everyone else on this Board that has to read your jealous, angry nonsense will be better off.

You're utterly predictable with your weak attempts at ad hominem attacks. You unintentially reveal more about your own character and integrity than any accusation you ever levy at Chuck.

Your credibility is shot.

Happy Easter to you as well, you angry putz. I'm sure our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ appreciates you posting your libelous bile on this, the holiest of holy days.

Personally, I hope Souza has as many (if not more) friends as I do, as he would be well-blessed if he does ... there is no nicer and warmer feeling as a coach than bumping into former players and their families in your everyday life out in the community, and seeing their sincere appreciation of their time spent with you earlier in their lives, in their pre-college/college years. As someone who's been doing this twice as long as Souza (for stipends), it has been the blessing of a well-rounded life.

My life is absolutely fine, married for over 40 years to a wonderful wife, two successful emancipated children, a growing set of grandchildren, and I've somehow managed to emerge from the rat race with plenty, plus clear title property in the idyllic paradise that is Effingwoods.

That you wish to demean me (and others like me) speaks volumes about your lack of character and jealousy, potty. Please, take a chill pill, enjoy some down time with your family(s), dude. Tomorrow, you are free to return to the hamster wheel that is your life down on the Beltway. Whatever floats your boat ...

lol. So you’re pious, too?

So you woke up on one of the two holiest days of the year and decided to castigate Mike Souza.

Sure thing, slugger. You’re a good Christian.

I have heard similar rumbling from others on here and also another fellow UNH alum.

I have gated optimism it will happen. But, similar to the renovations, I will “believe it when I see it”.

Rich was introduced in early July 2022. So I presume we wouldn’t hear word of someone new until a similar time this year. As to an announcement that her “contract isn’t going to be renewed” I have no idea…

Similar to the Rich hire, I hope they go external with the next AD. New blood I think is required to jumpstart athletics, and I hope they don’t go with one of her assistants etc.

If UNH is planning an external search for a new AD hire, I think that it is probably too late for this July 1. So, if UNH were planning to replace Rich, which I still doubt, they would likely need to go with an interim AD for a year, which may or may not be good news for MS7’s contract renewal next April.

What concerns me about a nationwide search for a new AD is the package that can realistically be offered.

At $255k a year, while well above the $60k median US salary, is still below average for comparable sized universities. While there will always be someone willing to take a package of this size (especially with universities struggling financially nationwide), will UNH truly be able to identify, recruit and contract a known quantity or will they be forced to take a calculated risk on some 35 yr old wunderkind looking for a shot at below market wages?

Time will tell.

Nothing anti-Souza here ...

Actually, here I am, hoping that Souza is as fortunate as I've been ... the only "castigation" here is directed at you, slugger. Make no mistake. You, you total DB.

It's gotta be those voices in your head again, potty. I trust that folks on here can actually read and comprehend. You, on the other hand, think you are so brilliant that you can bulldoze the readers with your constant stream of entirely invented bullcrap. Delusional and megalomaniac, not a good combination.

It's scary how embedded my presence has become in the vast empty space between your ears, skippy. Rent-free. Oh, and no one likes you either lol ... 😂 😂

Here's an update on a few incoming recruits. Kole Hyle's season is over as his Omaha Lancers failed to make playoffs [19-38-3] he finished 58-23-19-42[+6] a 2026 or 2027 recruit. Blake Cash played for Cushing 33-17-14-31.Led the team in goals. Cushing won the NEPSEC Prep School large school championship.Blake is a 2028 recruit. Hyle's from Newfields and Blake is from Hampton.

According to Mark Divver, Josh Player is in the portal.

G Dylan Silverstein from Quinnipiac, too.
Too bad with Player. I liked his game, but he was obviously battling for time on ice despite playing in most games. Lost end of season ice time to Conn. Not a huge impact on the team with VonRichter and Kennedy coming in.

He will always have that goal up in Orono. I believe it was a GWG as well? I wish him all the best.

Divver later tweeted PSUs J.J Wiebusch is also planning on hitting the portal. 16-20-36 as a sophomore, after a 14-19-33 as a freshmen. He would be a really solid get for UNH if they can convince him. Seems to be a solid scorer while also creating opportunities for teammates.
