Ohio State Women's Hockey 2025-26

Did OSU's outlook for a new rink improve today?
There is actually a fund on the OSU Giving website now where donors can designate funds to go to, so things are finally moving forward, albeit slowly, but things are finally moving in the right direction regarding getting a new arena.

That’s been a pipe dream for the last 8 years at least… the money trickling in won’t move a shovel before 2030 at least

You talk but it's only your opinion, you don't know the facts. Yes there have been numerous delays but unless you went back and read the reasons for those delays in numerous previous posts you haven't been a forum member long enough to know what was reported about it by those here who are in the loop of where things stand. I'm not going to repeat what's already been posted except that the fundraising did recently officially begun. But there could be a new twist as of today with the President of Ohio State stepping down under dubious circumstances and he was an advocate for the arena. So it's wait and see if that will affect the athletic department's plans.

St Thomas was referenced earlier...They received a 75 million dollar donation in early 2023 from Lee and Penny Anderson. Data reported on the cost of the arena places it at 175 million. The arena is multi-use...5300 seats for basketball and 4000 for hockey.

A multi-use facility is not what slOwSU is looking for as they would be building a women's hockey arena only, correct? Also what are the odds of a mega hockey donor stepping up for slOwSU? Seems like the odds are pretty much nil for that happening. And this seems like a very important part of making this happen.

A fund on the slOwSU giving website? With all the supposed fanatical slOwSU women's hockey fans contributing their retirement savings? Sheesh, after a few years that might fund the purchase of a new Zamboni or two and a couple of rows of seats.

Being a forum member for x number of years is no basis for knowledge as is wildly evident in this forum.
OSU will not build an exclusive women’s hockey facility because the interest in the team does not warrant that despite the beliefs on here.
It would be a dual purpose men’s and women’s facility and would need a minimum of 6,000 seats which would be perfect and keep the men’s game a “Hot” ticket. Any more seating and the administration is kidding itself as except for the Michigan series they just don’t draw well enough to justify more.
So, once again, it’s not happening anytime soon. It’s just not.

I am curious as to what is the make up of crowds at current rink? Majority students/non-students? In your opinion what is the right number of seats that would keep the crowds at 85-90% capacity? The team certainly deserves a bigger stage but how big is the question.

There will never be a rink built for TWSNBN. Why? Muzzy is wildly successful in the current dump, why drop 150 to 200 mil with no advantage gained?

I think the only hope is if someone wants that land for something else. The women could end up in the schottenstein maybe if that happened tho.

My family will be in town for the state wrestling tourney this weekend (who am I, lol). Thought about buying tix to the hockey game. My husband has a bad knee and simply can’t watch a game in that rink tho in a packed setting, let alone general admission packed rink. So I could go without him or skip it altogether . We’ll skip because I’d rather hang out as a family and lord knows it’s not the end of the world. But my daughter, a hockey player who aspires to play college sports one day is missing out on a chance to watch number 1 in an ncaa game because they play in a building not fit for the team or what they’ve accomplished.
The rink is beyond a joke. They should get dragged every single year in the media at this time of year. I’ll be very proud to watch my nephew in the state wrestling tournament in a proper venue. Embarassing and sexist OSU! I know money talks and the OSU brand and education are impressive, but some parents may decide they want their daughter to play at a school where the girls get the best resources the school can provide, rather than embarassing crumbs.

Was Muzzy Ted's Mistress???? - Good ol Slapshot was always staring at the Stilletos!!!! - Lets wait to hear what "The Callout" podcast says.....
Very odd post, from a very odd forum member.

Created his/her account in October of 2024, and didn't post anything - as best I can tell - until yesterday, when he/she shows up to bring up "Sierra". And now this rather insulting post.

What's going on here?

I can tell you with all certainty it's not Sierra back with a new identity.

As someone who was incredibly skeptical of Slapshot's fitness for the job, I'm not sorry to see him go. The one thing that I honestly thought he might achieve was getting a rink for the women, and he failed to make any progress on that. Sadly, I don't think the job is not going to be attractive to a Drake or Johnson level candidate, not with Wexner still pulling the strings on the board like some ghoul who won't go away. Slapshot wasn't around long enough to damage admissions selectivity, research funding or fundraising, so at least I'm thankful for that. As for his successor, I'm sure that Wexner's puppet board chief Zieger will make sure that the new President's top priority is protecting Leslie's legacy and his wife's meddling in the medical center.

Let me correct my double negative. I don't think the job is going to be attractive to top tier candidates we could have gone after four years ago.

The seating is approximately 650. There two sections of two row bleachers behind the goal on the south end for the students only and a section of bleachers in that corner for the band. The main bleachers are for the fans and parents which makes up the majority. It's general admission so you can sit anywhere you choose in the main bleachers.

Looks like Yale stayed out of the box in shutting out UMD. That's likely one of the key things they'll have to do in order to have success against tOSU.

Yale did take one penalty, Molly Boyle for cross-checking in the 2nd, though it is showing instead on the box score as Kate Kosobud on UMD. Still, yes, mostly Yale did stay out of the box!

Final Score From Thursday, March 12th
Yale 1
UMD 0

Battle Of The Bulldogs: Yale Prevails

The Battle of the Bulldogs proved to be a tight battle between two evenly matched teams. Shots on Goal? Dead even at 37 apiece. Face-Off Wins? 29 for UMD; 28 for Yale. For all intents & purposes, another dead heat.

Quality scoring chances were scarce for most of the game. Most the shots came from the outside. Both goalies were formidable indeed. The combined efforts of both squads generated only a single goal. That tally propelled Yale to the Region Final.

Three Stars of the Game: Decidedly Unofficial & Just For Fun

Honorable Mention: (tie) Gracie Gilkyson, Yale; and Mary Kate O'Brien, Minnesota-Duluth
When every player on the ice is a Bulldog, you've got to expect stubborn defense. From Forwards & Defenders alike. Both squads delivered.

For Duluth, 1st Line Left Wing O'Brien contributed 3 Blocked Shots to lead her team in that category. Proving she's a well-rounded player, Mary Kate added 4 SOGs to the Score Sheet.

For Yale, Gillkyson skated on the Right Side for the 1st 'D' Pair. She also contributed 3 Blocked to lead her team in that category. Another well-rounded player, Gracie added 5 SOGs to the Score Sheet.

Hats off to the stingy team defenses, led by the two players identified in this Mention.

#3 Star: Eve Gascon, Minnesota-Duluth
Just back from an Olympic appearance with Team Canada, Eve put her considerable skills on display. Most notably. Gascon's magical glove hand snared puck after puck.

Ironically, the lone goal of the game beat Gascon on the glove side. But there's a story within the story here. One of the UMD Defenders tried to block the successful shot with her glove hand. The puck glanced off that glove downward, if only a little. The redirection proved to be just enough to get the job done.

At the end of the day, Eve made 36 Saves on 37 Shots. Usually that's good enough to win. But not this time.

#2 Star: Molly Boyle, Yale
So who took the one successful shot? That would be Molly. Stephanie Stainton started the play down on the goal line. Sophia Levering received that pass at the left point. Levering sent a pass across the top to Boyle, who had pinched in just a little. Boyle's boiling hot blast blew into the UMD net, with just the tiny bit of help mentioned above.

Molly's name is all over the Score Sheet. Her 7 SOGs topped all Yale players. She took Yale's only penalty. (Thanks to BowWowWow for correctly identifying the cross-checker.) Boyle was also on the receiving end of a hard, illegal check that gave Yale their only PP.

A remarkable game. Molly was the offensive difference-maker -- playing Right 'D' on the 2nd Pair. In a match filled with good two-way players.

#1 Star: Samson Frey, Yale
Frey's staunch performance culminated in perfection: 37 Saves on 37 Shots. Congratulations on the Shutout, Samson! A shutout in NCAA play. It doesn't get much better than that.

Things really came to a head halfway through the 3rd Period. One of the UMD Defenders took a slashing penalty. A chance for Yale to salt the game away, right? Not so fast. During that "advantage," Yale gave up two clean breakaways, plus an additional partial breakaway. Note that UMD's Caitlin Kraemer created great danger on these counter-attacks.

Through it all, Samson stood tall, calm & proud. She turned away the entire onslaught with seeming ease. Ice water in her veins? Only Frey and the Yale Team Physician know for sure. But what we can say is that Samson was the defensive difference-maker, and that she won the game for Yale. See you Saturday!

I chose not to buy extra to bring guests, I felt it appropriate to leave as many possible for our regular Buckeye faithful.
