Quinnipiac Bobcats 2025-26 - Viva Las Vegas!

Not sure what that Ref Show was at the end, but nice effort tonight. Princeton's goalie scares me -- I wouldn't want to see them in the playoffs.

Six points up in the ECAC with four games to play. Outstanding second half of the season to set us up for another Cleary Cup.
Wytty obviously said something to the Princeton bench and Rand had "words" with the ref.

Great weekend result but their play was very sloppy at times tonight. Luckily Princeton could capitalize. Smith was their best player and made a few very big saves or it could have been 6 or 7 goals.

I'll take the sweep but there's still 2 tough weekends ahead.

I was at the game at Princeton last night. EW was taking a lot of shots from Princeton all night. Not just EW but a few plays should have been called for penalties and were not. Game was essentially won with the 3rd & 4th lines due to injuries. Nice to see those boys step up.

It's been really impressive to see this team play so well with how many key injuries they have. The team has grown up so much since October and I really think we are a legitimate Frozen Four threat.

I think it was a bit sloppy offensively. However, goaltending and defense really shined this weekend. Allowing only 2 PP goals in 2 games and shutting down a bigger stronger Princeton team was amazing. Especially Princetons record at home and going in there and quieting them. But your right in 2 tough weekends remain but they will get the job done.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but QU can clinch the top seed (and a share of the Cleary Cup) tonight with a win and a Dartmouth loss. Or if we get more points than Dartmouth tonight. Big Green is at RPI.

QU regulation win & DC regulation loss - clinch
QU regulation win & DC OT win/loss - clinch

I read somewhere earlier that 6 points for us and 5 or less for Dartmouth this weekend clinches.

I don’t remember a game at home as poor as what we witnessed last night. They don’t have what it takes to take on big teams. I think Rand was trying to tire out Cornell with quick 1st period changes, but it seemed to backfire. I think from a Hobey perspective, Rand is saying the right things about Wyttenbach. He’s an offensive highlight show on skates. That said, the Kids can’t play D. He’s always looking for that sports center top 10 play, and leaves his teammates out to dry. Odd man rushes because he’s hanging out too high hoping for a breakaway. He doesn’t attack players he plays the puck, one handed poke check attempts on fly byes. It puts him past the player going in the wrong direction and having to loop back to get back into the play. His reaction time on D is slow. All things he can and must improve to get to the next level. I’m sure this is why Calgary was seeing and thinking asking Rand to advance him. I really like the kid, if he improves his D, he’ll be a great college player and hopefully Pro. He probably needs at least 3 and possibly 4 years at this level, and needs it to be at QU and Coach B.

Side note, the last few weeks Rand has been positioned behind the Forwards rather than center bench. Sommers has been centered. Wonder what is behind that.

The loss last night dropped QU from 6 to 7 in the NPI. Not a big drop, as expected, because Cornell is good. But a loss tonight to #47 Colgate, at home, would kill us.

Time to regroup and put last night behind us.

Last night was truly David vs Goliath. Cornell is the largest team in the NCAA and we're the smallest. I didn't think it was a huge disadvantage because Cornell wasn't overly physical and we weren't afraid to hit them.

Silvy had a bad game. I thought it might turn around when we scored but Cornell's third seemed to crush us. Our top 2 lines were silent.

The bright spot for me was watching little Anthony Cippollone at 5'-6" take on 6'-6" Luke Ashton along the boards behind the net and win a few battles. The kid is fearless!

We need to reset and tighten things up. You’re absolutely right about Wyttenbach. His defensive play has been inconsistent for a while. He’s in the right environment to address it, but last night there didn’t seem to be much accountability. He kept getting sent back out shift after shift, and the issues weren’t getting corrected.

The same goes for Gilson. After last night, he needed a long stretch on the bench. I would take Leddy at 75% over Gilson at 100%. The lack of defensive discipline and the multiple odd-man rushes he gave up were costly and avoidable. That cannot happen, especially this time of year. Teams in the top 10 are going to capitalize every time.

As for Silverstein, it’s hard to even put into words. We need Leddy back at full strength as soon as possible. His defensive presence against teams like UConn and Cornell is critical.

That said, we’ve been rolling in the second half and maybe this was the wake-up call we needed. If there’s a game to drop for NPI purposes, this was probably the one. Hopefully this loss grounds them and sharpens their focus. Now it’s about responding the right way and taking it to Colgate tonight.

I hope we bring our "A" game tonight Mark, or you might blow us out. We can be pretty good or just horrible, beat Cornell then lose to RPI. I would be happy with a close game tonight. WTH happened to you guys last night ?

I'll take door #2 Steve! ;)

Last night was just an off night. Nothing went right and a lot went wrong. I'm hoping for a huge turnaround tonight.

I love stats like this. I too am a nerd for records and statistics. Nicely done.

Though this shows QU's dominance in the recent series, just remember one thing...Colgate was the ONLY team to beat the Bobcats TWICE in 2022-23, our National Championship season. Colgate denied us the Whitelaw Cup in that 2OT thriller in the semifinals up in Lake Placid. The Raiders had our number that year!

I posted the summary here. Check out the details on the Colgate thread.

Nice response after last night's debacle. Sorry Shabby and IBT... ;)

Nice to see Pelosi back and Wyttenbach put up another 3 pts to tie the record for freshman points in a season. He would have broken it if Marcellus didn't miss the wide open net on a 2 on 1 breakaway. We were all over Colgate most of the night. Dyck made some key saves otherwise the score would have been much worse. I thought Marinov was solid and made several big saves himself. The second 'Gate goal was a fluke deflection that nobody knew went straight up. Unfortunately, a 'Gate player pounced on it and had a lot of net to shoot at.

All in all, a good win and puts us in great shape for the final weekend at Dartmouth and Harvard. A win Friday clinches the Cleary.
