UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Have finally accepted the state of the season, and couldn’t ask much more from the boys. Really feel for them. They indisputably played hard. Great heart and individual effort. Severely outpaced their opponent. Of course UConn made it easier w the discipline issues. Josh looked like a leader out there tonight. I was impressed. The freshman ALL really showed up tonight too. Marques was excellent, Jaden looked better and at least more confident. Gerrior got super involved. Peterson is a stud. Brock James looked rock solid. Usereau is growing quickly. Albin was ok. He made important saves and kept them in the game.

I like how they were celebrating with each other. And honestly coaching seems to be the thing that’s off the most, still. The lack of development overall. Chemistry, instinct, decision making issues. Lost physical battles. Weird lines. Serious skill regression

I hope Barr gives them praise after this and picks them up. I know Freel and Albin are probably pretty palpably upset and negative

It was a really entertaining game anyway.

Would like to know what got said to get them rolling this game. Seemed about the mid first period things picked up in intensity.

Once they started to play more north/ south they did much better.

Do what you have to do to win, but Fowler pretending to be hurt in the 3rd, then right up for a scoring chance when the puck was turned over, sours the integrity of hockey. That’s what they do in futbol.

Good effort by Maine, they played hard and finished every period strong.

I don't remember anyone saying Gerrior was the cream of the crop in this recruiting class but he and his line have improved tremendously. Tough game, Maine played hard. Shame they didn't win. Lipinski has looked better also. Difference was goaltending . Boija wasn't awful but he isn't close to last year. I would hope a rebuild year would show steady improvement . Been more up and down.

A couple thoughts…

Maine has six regulation wins in 25 competitive games(Holy Cross and Lindenwood are a joke and those results are meaningless as far as I’m concerned). Maine hasn’t been beaten a ton in regulation which is a positive, but it’s pretty shocking to me they haven’t been able to win more games.

I thought last year Quinnipiac, Providence, and Uconn were more talented than Maine even though the results weren’t that bad, but this year there is clearly a huge gap. You can overcome a talent deficiency with hard work, coaching, etc but it only bridges the gap so far. There is a ton of work to be done in the offseason.

I'm pretty sure he took a good shot to the head. In overtime after Rouillard took the coward way out and called interference and embellishment, Maine took a high hit right in front of the ref and no call. UConn goalie was making great saves all night even Albin had a few but bombed the shootout. We missed Poirier. If you guys want ill give you a juicy nugget on that..

Maine is ninth in Hockey East. Mathematically eliminated from the Hocky East title.
Realistically, the best the team can do is earn home ice for a first round game and then a trip to Boston for a QF matchup with either the Eagles or Terriers.
Assuming they win the first round game...

Rouillard is a p.o.s

You have to tell us now after saying that...
Someone was nominated for the hobey baker. Someone as well may think they are "better than" most on the team and attitude shows that.. My guess is said person will not be here next year and has been causing a little strife in the locker room. Also said person is day to day

In terms of next year, I don't think Barr can make drastic cuts in the roster. He as a coach/recruiter believed in these players enough to recruit them. I don't see how you give up on them after playing together one season. Players develop over the course of time in skill, experience and maturity. Bringing in a whole new roster could very well be duplicating what we are seeing this year.

You won't see that but they need more high end scoring. Pretty telling that Grayson Arnott was one of your best offensive players last night.

Lots of bad bounces lately but they can play with anyone in this league. They could get hot at the right time

This sounds like some slander to me. Effort from Poirier has been consistent which is more than I can say for most of the guys. As for him being back next year, I think he’s gone. This is a stepping stone for him to get to the next level.

That is a bit of a stretch. He went to the net and tapped in one of the many juicy rebounds Muselik left. Let’s not say he was the best offensive player last night. I felt Marques was. I also liked how Gerrior played.

The thing that bugs me is we played a goalie that left SO many rebounds there in front and Maine still struggled to score. Guys like Freel should be the king of those rebounds. Guys like Scott, Komarov, Fowler, Pichette all should be driving net hard looking to pounce on those. Because those ones aren’t out there for their playmaking set ups, using creativity. They aren’t out there for pure sniping and high skill snap wristers. So you all talk about recruits aren’t good enough. Why is it you all don’t point to your upperclassmen and expect more? I think it is just lazy to say it is recruiting because you don’t want to put the effort into thinking… like it is tough to do.

For me, the juniors and seniors are letting this team down. I actually think we need more of what this freshman class brings not the other way around. If your top players are freshman it should tell a normal person the top classes aren’t holding their own.

But not this fan base. No we have to blame recruiting and discuss rebuilding through recruiting.

The answer is more like this class and hope our juniors are better as seniors. And our sophomores are better as juniors.

The answer is another solid recruiting class and maybe transfer portal replacement of some current juniors and sophomores that will be seniors and juniors next year.

Oh yeah, and get Rousseau some time so he can have a legit chance at top duties next year. Boija’s glove side has regressed and isn’t where it needs to be for a D1 starting goalie. Spotting the other team a goal or two each game now. It’s like when Ostman went bad.

That sucks but if he can't be a team player, bye bye

It was driving me f-,ing crazy last night how every shot left a rebound and why we weren't just driving to the net front for them. Not only that but while skating the puck in they had many chances to drive the net with the puck but failed to do so. Hell arnolt brought the puck in once and went right to the net, almost scored. They also had net front position during power plays with a good look and didnt take thd shot instead dicked around and passed it off.
People around me were getting tired of my commentary im sure.
I began to wonder - is barr just not willing to adjust during a game for these circumstances and just want to hold fast to the script no matter what. Odd if it is.

Not to get greedy... but is someone surprised/upset w their own production and teammates sloppiness, or does this attitude, transcend that..
