UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

Well I did not have that game on my Bingo card!

First off, I’m a big fan of the semi throw back uniforms - I think they wore these once last year in an exhibition game, I think they should wear them more and also I think there would be many interested in purchasing them (make a few extra bucks for the program - never a bad thing).

Now UNH certainly didn’t play a perfect game, but they came out hot, had a decent idea on the PP, and were aggressive throughout. They did hit a bit of a lull there in the 2nd and BU almost tied it with a few crossbars. Still… they found a way. Big shoutout to Lavins who showed signs of being in pain but fought through it and got rewarded with the ENG. I pray he returns next year and gets to wear the “C”. He has certainly earned it, and perhaps it would help convince some guys on the fence to stay as well.

They showed a graphic that, outside of the win vs. Maine a few weeks back, BU really has been struggling. Let’s keep the foot on the gas pedal tomorrow and bring home a weekend sweep.

With UMLs win tonight, we are still in the basement, but are only 3 points behind the 7th place team (tie between Maine and NU). We can make up some serious ground with a win tomorrow, and 5/6th is only another 3 points away…

Hoping this is the spark they need to finish strong. Tomorrow night looms large, but I’m feeling much more confident after tonight, I imagine the boys are as well!

Also, kudos to Chuck for the win prediction earlier this week. Hopefully it’s not just one, but two wins this weekend!

Agree with your thoughts Snively. I’d like to see what UNHs record is when they are behind/don’t score first. I imagine it is not pretty. Given the lack of scoring, I think they really psych themselves out when they go down, knowing that going down by any more than 1 goal is pretty much an insurmountable lead to overcome. I think this is partially to explain why things unraveled so quickly last weekend against PC.

Again… I would pin that mostly on coaching, as keeping composure is part of the job. I haven’t seen much of that lately, but perhaps that is also part of the “new look” we may see tonight.

Scoring first helps keep them in the game, at least for a little while (like PC last weekend). Hopefully they can get on the board first tonight and hold the lead throughout!
Well, at least we scored first so that part of my post held up. And happy to be taken out to the woodshed by the team for the rest of the negativity in my post. A sweep this weekend would do wonders for improving my outlook for this season.

Good win tonight. The first 5 minutes were what I thought it would be, minus the goals. I think they played prevent defense until the 3rd, but a win is a win. Can this carry into a win tomorrow? Don't forget 6pm start tomorrow which will go well with the US Men's game ending at the same time.

Another thing to continue to watch. I believe Leclerc had 2 assists last night, bringing his career total to 89 points. He’s probably gonna need to average nearly 2 points a game to get close to the century mark before seasons end. If the ‘cats average 4 goals a game the rest of the way, he’s got a solid shot…

The way I saw it norby was great forechecking pressure, especially early with the lead. Looked like 1-2 with jump to 2-1 on certain line matchups or opportunities. They seemed to alternate a bit but either way it was aggressive and effective.

As to prevent, I think being overwhelmed (by a team that is man-for-man more talented) can look like that, as in those 5x5 shifts that look like a PK. It seemed like the true "prevent" kicked in with abt 7 min to go.

Lastly, don't ever take those sweaters off (someone already wrote this), classic stuff, way big improvement on the crappy fatty font that 4th graders designed with some sidewalk chalk circa 2001 or 2002...don't remember exactly but hate it

These are the uniforms they raffled off last year. I am guessing a variation of these will become permanent- Look at what is hanging in the locker rooms in the renovations press release. Love them!

Surprised potty hasn't arrived here yet to crow about MS7 turning things around. Must've been up late celebrating the big win, deciding to sleep in late too?!?

As the prime purveyor of the "let me score first, I'll give you the SOG's" theory from way back ... if UNH scores first again tonight, look for them to sweep, which would be a shocking/great turnaround. BU looked like crap last night, and if UNH as a team has fragile confidence, BU looks like they're in the same quandary ...
