2025-26 Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State shutout Mercyhurst 3-0, with Maddy Campbell in net and Lauren Hernick as backup goalie - Katie DeSa wasn't even in the lineup, and neither was Matilde Fantin.

Outwater was back from injury. Desa must still have her injury. Fantin received a game misconduct the last game and I'm not sure if it carried over and maybe it did. Campbell does not lack confidence.

Good for the AHA with Mercyhurst winning in ot and bad for PSU. Mercyhurst is always ready to turn the tables on PSU.
In the three previous games against Mercyhurst this season, Penn State had outscored them 12-1, with two shutouts. Since the holiday break, their shots on goal are way down, and now the Olympics are taking Janecke, Hall, and Fantin away, so they better get their mojo back on track for the Olympic stretch.

The coaching staff has some work to do on figuring out lines and pairings with the three players being out for the Olympics.

Perhaps there should be a Janecke, Fantin and Hall line in Syracuse tonight so that the other lines can be figured out when PSU has to play without those three.

Congratulations to Janecke, Fantin and Hall and to Penn State for this accomplishment.

Penn State beat Syracuse 4-1 tonight on goals from Mya Vaslet, Grace Outwater, Kendall Butze, and Tessa Janecke. Shots on goal were 40-14 for Penn State, so it's good to see them back up there with shots on goal. No sign of Katie DeSa or Matilde Fantin again, so who knows? I'm wondering if Fantin is already with Team Italy prepping for the Olympics.

Katie DeSa was not listed on the lineup for the fourth-straight game with an undisclosed injury. Matilde Fantin also wasn’t in the lineup as she is practicing with the Italian national team ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games.

Campbell is filling in for Desa nicely.

That is the type of win that was expected in the first game. However, it's nice to know that PSU can win a 1-0 game and then a 5-1 game a couple weeks later against Cornell. Fantin made the Italian Olympic team. Don't forget the outside game coming up.

January 30, outdoor game at Beaver Stadium against Robert Morris. They're already working on the rink at the stadium. Pretty cool that BTN+ has the game on their event calendar, too. I can't even remember the last time I saw an outdoor hockey game.

Outwater has tied Janecke for most goals as a Sophomore and she missed three games after the break. That's saying something - like Team Canada needs to open their eyes.

I wonder if goalies are going to be alternated here on out to keep Desa fresh and healthy for the post season?

Penn State loves playing in Ithaca. I found it interesting that PSU stayed in New York after playing Syracuse. Perhaps three nights and a whole day with the coaches made the players a little hangry.

Assuming PSU left Ithaca last night that gives Penn State two nights at home before they head to Delaware.

PSU hockey operations is earning their money during this stretch.

BTW Mercyhurst swept RIT.

Penn State beat Delaware (I know, it's Delaware) 5-0, and can clinch the AHA regular season title with a win tomorrow. Goals came from Grace Outwater, Maddy Christian, Mikah Keller, Taya MacDonald, and Kendall Butze.

Kampersal and his assistants have the program in good shape. The team is not firing on all cylinders after the break... Yet. Campbell played tonight. Maybe a Hernick sighting tomorrow? Outwater just broke Janecke's record for most goals scored by a PSU sophomore.

Desa played today against a hapless Delaware squad. That signals at least to me that Desa must be healthy again if the coaches decided to trot her out for this game. Delaware lost a combined 12-0 this weekend. The third period of the second game was filled with roughing and body check penalties by both teams. Was Delaware warming PSU up for a Robert Morris team that likes to roll around in the mud? Are Janecke and Hall missing next weekend as Fantin has already left for the Olympics?

I think this was the last series for the three Olympians.

DeSa got today's game so she could set the Penn State record for career shutouts, which she did.

Big stuff that PSU has its first USA hockey Olympian. And it is no small feat that Hall made the Swedish Team and Fantin made the Italian team. Best of luck to all three.
