Wisconsin Hockey 25-26 Hastings Year 3 - Turning the Corner?

Now that we have a week to gab, Any major updates on Whitelaw, Lucious, and Cleveland and their endeavors? And do we think the 1st two were the ones Hastings was pointing to WRT locker room issues?

Secondly, have we missed out on any major in state recruits? Not that we have to have them, but just curious.

I saw the top USHL recruit just decommitted from PSU, Mason Fleece...any word on if WI is targeting him?

I’m a bit surprised that Pulver got both starts but it sounds like he was outstanding.

To come back and win in OT after giving up a late goal, and the home team having all the momentum, shows a lot of fortitude - no way the team last year gets this done.
I watched the whole game on my phone at 2 am the next morning. Pulver was truly outstanding. He made quite an impression against odd man rushes from MSU in regulation and ot. It really had to be just to shut down a team like MSU for all but :39 seconds of regulation.

Whitelaw on his third team in 3 years. His production is up at Western Michigan. Lucious about at his career point per game. He went to ASU and has stayed there. Cleveland on his third team in three years. Not really scoring at all. I don't know. I think they didn't want to put in all the work that Hastings demands. Stramel needed a change and he has looked terrific at MSU. I don't hold any ill will towards any of them. If they don't want to be there than move on.

I doubt it on Masun Fleece. I think they are set at forwards for 26-27

I harbor no ill will either. Just three teams in three years makes it look like the kids are chasing. But I know Lucious was hurt 1st half of last year. Stramel def needed a scenery change. He may have come to WI expecting the Granato treatment as a top fligjt recruit and draftee....and got that bubble popped pretty quickly with Hastings.

Buccigross had us ranked 9th last week. And after sweeping the #1 team on the road he moved us up to 8th.
Bucci made a comment about Wisconsin fans being upset with him during the Wild-Blackhawks broadcast on Wednesday too. Dude is a bit of a troll lol

Personally, I think Hastings handled Stramel poorly. He would make comments about moving Stramel up the lineup after he had a good game and then wouldn’t follow through. From the player’s perspective, that had to be frustrating and drove him back to Nightingale (previous coach at NTDP). I think Stramel wanted to be a Badger all the way through. Just wasn’t meant to be.

Gophers beat Denver in OT and are on a bit of a roll to end their first half. MSU swept Colgate. Michigan swept Harvard. Minnesota State has won six straight games. All of these solidifying our standing near the top of the NPI.

Ohio State swept by ASU; losing both games in OT and falling to 5-9-0. How did we lose to that team?

We played really bad defensively that whole weekend. I think Palodichuk goes slightly underappreciated on the defensive end, even going back to last year the team plays way better when he's healthy, and he didn't play at all that weekend. Osburn was also out that weekend (and still is) and he is so good with the puck on his stick, as well as carrying it into offensive zone and establishing possession, and that has really been missed as well.

On a side note, I got out to a Notre Dame - BC game on Friday. ND didn't look amazing defensively, and their goaltender was alright - he made a lot of initial saves but let out a few rebounds which ended up as goals. My bigger takeaway though is that their top 6 forwards are really impressive. BC was the better team (and won in a close game) but give ND too many power play or scoring opportunities and they will take advantage and make the game close.

I was mildly surprised, maybe home ice advantage played into some of it. But we gratefully accept the gift! ;)

I really don't know how I feel about what I just saw. We dominated puck posession in the first but had two pretty brutal D lapses that allowed Grade A chances in the slot to go down 0-2, with one being off a deflection, so I can't blame Pulver for those. Pretty demoralizing, at least to me. Also got absolutely handed our lunch in the face-off circle. On the positives, it really is nice to have Palodichuk and Osburn back at full strength. At the end, I'd like to take the W and then flush this win, as it was ugly. A road win is always good, but lots to clean up for tomorrow.
