UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

Nice ENG for Winters and the good Cats take a thriller😂

me too Ref.
I mean I was there lol. Felt it was a typical game v UVM...whom I thought were all over the 'Cats and out skated them. Was happy to see guys like MacDonald and Philbrick get goals and Felix adds to his totals.
Sorry but the 5 on 3 looked like a passing drill and good things happened when the 'Cats got gritty in the goal circle (is that a hockey phrase)
Hoping to see a uptick tonight from the get go...they've gotta come right out of the block.
3 more HE points would really help
Wow how about those NE Huskies?!?

Great game last night. All 4 lines played well. Captain Winters put an exclamation point on the game with 1 minute to go. VT pulled goalie and they gained control in our end- with a free man on the wing with a rocket shot blocked by Winters. He could barely skate from the block. He proceeded to work the corner to free the puck and sent it the length of the ice for the open net and win. Gutsy play. The boys are definitely fighting right till the end. That was missing last year. It's a young group making plenty of mistakes, but they work hard every shift. They are easy to root for. My standouts from the game were Winters, Gagnon, Siedem, and Philbrick. Let's get a sweep tonight!!

Well this is a decent view of the game..just was kind of boring I dunno. Still good points made and yeah Winters was a beast on that block amd ENG which he has scored from that exact spot before! Here's to a sweep tonight!!

Sure seems like I watched a different game than Ref as I thought the game was anything but boring, as it could have gone either way right up to the ENG by Winters with 31 seconds remaining.

The reason that I thought the Winters ENG was not smart was because if he had missed the net it would have been icing and a faceoff in front of Chauvette, with 31 seconds more than enough time for UVM to notch the tying goal with the 6 on 5. IMHO, the smart play would have been for Winters to flip the puck into the neutral zone forcing UVM to reset.

My only complaint about the game was someone pestering two of us for a selfie at the end of the second period causing us to miss Felix’s goal. Felix is making me forget about Ryan Conmy quickly and I cannot say that I am disappointed he is not “fitting in” well at BC.

I thought that our fourth line of MacPherson, Skrastins, and Turner played great the entire game. I need to check their TOI, but whatever it was, I felt that they earned it.

100% on the MacPherson line! I would like to see Ryan on the second line in place of Cronin.

Oh and Souza was super happy about the Winters goal. I have not seen that type of emotion from him with a player in a long time. We sit behind the UNH bench. I think he knows how well winters is creating a super bond with all team members with the influx of so many new players.

It was a sweet goal though. Nothing succeeds like success.

What I'm questioning is why didn't the hippies challenge the Philbrick goal?

What do you think UVM should have challenged about Philbrick’s goal?

Like my second guessing about Winters’ ENG, I think that Philbrick risked giving up a 2- or 3-odd-man rush back up ice by jumping so deep into the offensive zone. Great that both goals worked out for us, but both plays just as easily could have gone the other way.

Aw come on..lol. Even ecat agrees with me. But no mind..UVM best us on 2 decent goals and we just couldn't seem to put away the chances we had. Too bad...could've used those 3 points.
To the points made about mixing up some players I agree...offensively speaking 4 goals over the weekend.d isn't terrible but hopefully they find some combos that click. Outside of Winters that top line didn't do much this weekend but what do I know....

I would say scoring only 4 goals in two games (not counting ENG) is plenty terrible, especially against one of worst cupcake teams in Div 1. Oops, if your team cannot beat the cupcakes, is YOUR team the cupcake?

Given that I only saw the Friday game, how would you compare with the Saturday game? Was Saturday game less boring, more boring, or equally boring? From the CHN box score, it appears that SOG were more even in the Saturday game, but we dominated in the face off circle, with Felix alone equaling the UVM total of 14 FOW. But then inexplicably Felix did not tally a single SOG.

The battle for the HEA basement continues, I guess.

I thought it was a faster paced game and we definitely came out fast and furious in the 1st. UVM like I said got 2 great goals lol ours was lucky to make it over the finish line but we will take it. I am trying to cut them some slack as I realize they have a ton of new bodies out there. Felix on the dot was spectacular.

Read somewhere from a fan the 'Cats look 'disorganized ' at times...any feelings about that? At least we made the trip back to Burlington less painful for the other 'Cats but I remain disappointed nonetheless.

Onto the River Hawks... Hope they have a great week of practice as they sort it out.
So those of you with a clue...what say you about our overall state of affairs this weekend?
PS..elevate the puck boys...

Got to see UNH alumni Casey DeSmith take a tough loss in South Florida last night. Seems odd how long ago he was at the U

On a different note play aside as I didn’t see any but I do see a lot of empty seats. Even students felt trick or treating is more fun than watching the games.

Have you been at the 'Whitt this season? Yeah this weekend the place was the emptiest I've I've ever seen...rtho Sat was better?

Maybe people dont want or can't afford 35 bucks a seat? If you are around next Sat come by and say hi..I'm sitting on the concourse for now. Hope your Fla trip was good!

On the CdS note we were following the game as some friends we were hanging with are big fans. It was difficult to discuss that Fall of 2014 with a fan sitting with us who knew little about it. And I do not wish to open up that can of worms. He's moved on and has found decent success...good for him.

Happy for Casey DeSmith, who has a chance to move ahead of Ty Conklin in NHL games played by the end of this season. CdS now at 193 games (2.79 gaa, 9.10 SV%); TC at 216 (2.69, 0.906). CdS played in 29 and 27 games each of the past two seasons. Anyone see this coming, as I did not?

First game I haven't attended in a bit (kids decided to go). Early season takeaways. 1. The games are more boring on ESPN + because the announcers don't add a lot of flavor. 2. We miss Lavins on that second line. 3. The boys are in every game so far except the Merrimack game. I actually thought we were clearly the better team on Saturday. Chauvette gave up his first soft goal. We battled to the end again. 4. The Cats are young and will continue to improve. 5. I have seen more active coaching on the bench from MS7 than I have seen in a few years! 6. Felix Gagnon is a beast!!

Thanks great post! As far as 'boring' goes for me it was a reflection of a typical UNH UVM game. Agree with your points about Sat being a better game...and that is a team of 14 new players who need to gel / acclimate to D1. Felix...beast...why isn't he on the top line?!? 😆
