2028 Elections

Wait…what?? There’s going to be elections in 2028? Really??

I did early voting yesterday. It was pretty much just local offices - mayor, school committee. But figured I’d vote while I still had the right.
 
We'll still have elections, they just won't be meaningful. Even Saddam had elections; he just happened to win every one with 99% of the vote. The GOP has figured out they don't need to follow the Nazis and outlaw the Democratic Party, they just need (to quote Andor) a useful opposition that can be counted on to do the wrong thing. Sound like anyone you know?
 
We'll have the elections. The Republican Party will decide who wins and who loses. You can decide yourself if that's fascism or not.
 
You guys should be careful...when I said the Notre Dame Hockey Guy said I was somehow supporting all of this.

And Harisscan run...she won't make it far in the primaries though because she already torched some of the wrong people and she had no Progressive Cred since she followed the advice of the Pundit Class by going Republican Lite.
 
Yeah nothing against Harris, she gave it her best, but that was her shot and that's it. And she was already 60 and we need younger blood, and she's not magically getting 10 years younger in the next 4 years.
 
I can deal with age with the right politics...but seeing as she says choosing Walz was a mistake and she wanted Mayor Pete tells me that she is way too close to the people we need to excise from the Party than I want. Sad, I have been a fan of hers since 2020.
 
Yup exactly what I was getting at. I don't want him to run but I would run to the polls if he did!

Bernie and his bizarro support of the Nazi from Maine is where he’s lost me. I’m chalking it up to grandpa yelling at the TV at this point.

I think age is a disqualifier for me until the Democrats can start using it responsibly. How many died this past term in office? That it’s more than one is a travesty and it’s partly why we have a 6-3 SCOTUS and potentially a 7-2 deficit if Sotomayor can’t hold on until 2029.

If you’re eligible for Medicare I’m not really interested. I’d still vote blue no matter who, but I will cast my primary vote elsewhere.

Lol at people from away thinking they know what wins in Maine. He definitely appeals to the horseshoe crowd, and we have our share of those in Maine, but the longer he is out there the harder it is going to be for him. There is more damaging oppo research that hasn’t dropped as well. He’s very intelligent and a decent guy, but trying to pretend to be some sort of blue collar/working class stiff isn’t the way to go.
 
Platner is no nazi and I don't think anyone actually thinks he is or ever was. And I can sorta squint and believe that a drunken, younger Platner had no idea that this sorta badass tattoo design had SS connections. But dude there's zero chance - zero chance - that you weren't informed of this fact many years ago. Don't lie to me and tell me you never knew.

I listened to his appearance on Pod Save America a few months ago and could even accept his explanation for all the old Reddit posts. Life changes and we change with it (or we become Republicans).

But the tattoo thing and his outright lies about it. "Not having nazi tattoos" or at least "having nazi adjacent tattoos but having them fixed the millisecond you learn what they are" seems like the lowest of low bars. And he does not clear that.

Yeah, I think he would have been better off saying he found out about it after he got the tattoo but it means something different to him.
