UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Ends in a tie with Boija making a huge save on a breakaway.

Maine didn’t work hard enough for the win tonight.

Maine didn’t look good tonight effortwise… outworked.

Not a very good game. I think the jump up in the level of competition was evident. Tough to give up 2 EAGs but as others have said, perhaps growing pains with a young team.

Rough tie and was ugly at times. The talent is there but don’t see the effort for 60 minutes that has been the standard the last few years. Feels like a missed opportunity to score some points come tourney time.

Denver lost to Lindenwood. Yikes.

As for Q they deserved that win but we handed it to them with timid play. At some point the boys need to develop killer instinct.

As for Q fans apparently that one Natty went to someone's head. Clown.

Maine had a three goal lead twice in the game! So, it wasn't the fact that Maine lacked any offensive play. It appeared to me that Maine was not prepared defensively for the final few minutes where the Bobcat's were on fire with the extra attacker goals. Boija prevented a Maine loss with that breakaway save in regulation. If he doesn't make that save it's a brutal loss!

The thing that surprised me was the level Quinnipiac absolutely bossed Maine in Maine’s end. It was men against boys for large stretches. Against the better teams it’s going to be a struggle at times where Maine has so many smaller players in prominent roles. One suggestion I would make is just dump the puck out more. It’s obviously not how Barr wants to play but at times it’s Maine’s best option with the personnel they have.

Maine’s best and most effective line was the 4th line, not afraid to go into the dirty areas and created 2 goals. Top line was really fighting it last night, felt like they were in their own zone a lot and on the ice for a few goals against.

Barr postgame talked about how a lot of the veterans are fighting it and feeling bad for themselves. Feels like that might be a shot at Russell and Scholle, they have to find their game. Maine got dominated on the draws down the stretch so hopefully they’re better there tonight.

Scholle doesn’t look like he has the speed for playing center. Not sure if he’s injured or not still. I’d swap Russell and Scholle because Russell definitely has the speed and range. Scholle can then get deep and stay in the corners without the need to peel back as hard. He can stay deep and worked the boards and generate offense near the net front. Just a thought.

I thought Lipinkski and Marques looked good last night offensively. Lipinski is seemingly outplaying Scott and looking like Maine’s top center. He is a beast and is extremely impressive.

Seems weird to say Boija played great in a game where he gave up 4 goals. Two were 6-on-5, but still Q offense was peppering him with grade A chances.
