UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Was so nice to be back in the Alfond watching practice this afternoon.

Based on the line combos the top nine feels pretty set:

Poirier | Scott | Nadeau - (Nadeau looked really good, kinda looks like he put in some work with his shot because it looked lethal)
Freel | Lipinski | Marques - (Marques didn't stand out to me as much as Lipinski, but can tell this line will be tough to play against)
Fowler | Komarov | Russell - (11 & 38 were alternating C duties all practice, could see Komarov staying at wing and working well)

Fourth line was all over the place but saw Gerrior | James | Peluso together a lot so I guess project that for now. Would be weird to leave Scholle out of the lineup, but he was on a lot of different combos so no idea where he's slotting in at the moment (saw him with Poirier/Lipinski and Scott/Nadeau). Have heard he might be nursing an injury. Also saw Calafiore | Pichette | Peluso together a bunch so another trio to keep in mind.

Most consistent D pairings were:

Holt | Djurasevic
Usereau | Chabrier
Coughlin | Nobes
Peterson | Motew

Also saw some Peterson | Chabrier and Motew | Arnott combos as well.

Coughlin took a spill and left the ice with his shoulder hanging, but came back after 10/15 mins and looked fine. Something to keep an eye on though, especially since Langlois was in street clothes.

Boija was Boija, looked like his usual self. Rousseau looked pretty solid as well. He's got great range getting across but a saw him overcommit a few times and get beat (that used to drive me nuts about Ostman).

Thanks for sharing. Doesn’t sound good that Langlois is in street clothes. Wonder if this means he is red-shirting this season because he isn’t over his injury or aggravated it. It’s an interesting 2nd line since both Freel and Lipinski are net front battler types. Marques is skilled and likes to work higher in between the dots in the middle. So you are right, it’s going to be tough on opposing defensemen to protect their net front. Marques better get good at feeding for tips and sniping through screens.

I’m most interested in the defensive pairings. Did they look better/faster breaking the puck out? Did they look weaker in their own end?

Yesterday there was one player with a red shirt on, was there one out there today?. Wondered who that was --- maybe langlois,? Whoever it was was good with the puck.
Sounds like it might have been Scholle. He was in a normal jersey yesterday but wasn't skating as part of any real normal line pairings so might be working his way back into the lineup.

No idea if Langlois has been on the ice at all, I'd guess probably not since he missed all of last season.

From what I saw yesterday this team should be in good shape defensively from the jump. The outlet passes from the D were all really crisp and to be honest I was a bit surprised with how well the pairing all looked in sync with each other in the defensive zone drills. Didn't think the PP units looked great during that portion of practice. The PK was very tenacious. Really high-pressure in-your-face puck pursuit which looked miserable to play against, especially for these units that are still trying to gel together.

Came away really impressed with Usereau and Peterson. Peterson scored a couple really nice goals and has a lot of flair to his game despite being kind of undersized. Had read that for as good as a puck mover as Usereau is he struggles a bit defensively, but didn't see that at all. He looked like he could compliment Chabrier's skating game well.

Thank you for the scouting report Tyler! Hopefully this carries over once the real hitting starts.

The athletic department is hosting a pep rally of sorts from 3-5pm at Pepper's Landing in Brunswick before the 7pm exhibition game at Bowdoin College.

Parking already is an issue.....this will exacerbate that problem. Whenever a new parking structure is mentioned....people chime in that Marsh Island is sinking and it is impossible to build on campus despite all of these new buildings being constructed. It is 2025 and UMaine has an incredible engineering school.....I'm sure they can figure out how to build a 3 level parking structure.....lol.

I took a Geology of Maine class at UMaine and the professor commented how stupid the people were that claimed a parking structure would sink — you only have to dig a few feet before hitting bedrock and many construction projects on campus involved blasting.

Huge day!!! Some pressing questions:

1. Any idea if there is any broadcast at all anywhere or even commentary?
2. Is there any possible way to get tickets on any resale sites (would pay $150+ to get in the building)
3. Do we think it's going to be competitive, or lots of trial and error/pre-season NFL type vibe?

I think it might be on 92.9 which has an internet stream all the time. You can listen to it right now, for example. Click on Listen then on drop down click Listen Live at this link: https://929theticket.com/

Having said this, please give impressions if you get to see them live.

So is the era of the women’s hockey teams walking through the stands to get to their locker rooms over?
Maybe still the case for the visiting womens team when theres also a mens home game. The maine women had their old locker room anyway.
Womens visiting team might still use the old bbball locker room up in the back when mens visiting team is in house and have to walk down the stands to the bench.
This assumes they didnt build/rehab 2 new visiting locker rooms. But I dont know what they did.

As has been posted, there should be an audio feed.
I haven't seen the game even listed on a secondary market. Tickets are not available for walk-up purchase. I do wonder who got tickets, since they sold out in seconds and they aren't available for resale...maybe bots got all the tickets and can't resell them so the stands will be empty.
I expect it will be semi-competitive. Both coaches will use it to confirm line combinations and build team chemistry. It may only be a scrimmage, but it is still UNH. The coaches may not deem results important, but the players will.

Freel essentially said as much. It's still Maine UNH and they're playing to win
