Its not...there is always going to be Purple Dems either because of their district or who bought them off. And even if you are right and there is a Progressive takeover of the Party people will shift Right. I bet we could name plenty who have done it since the rise of MAGA.
But lets hypothesize it happens...they will run out of time before they can fix everything. This isnt the 1930s the Dems will get two years before the voters flip flop in the next midterms. And no Dem has the balls to do the work in a term or less.
Maybe but I think Dump is a symptom that the traditional rigging of the game has been broken by the very excesses of those who engineered it. They got so greedy they created a system where now it is possible to bypass the rules and conventions they had corrupted to protect perpetual profit.
History never ends. As things get wildly out of true there are more and more radical reactions to restore homeostasis. Nature abhors imbalance. Dump is one of those pendulum swings, just barely hanging on to some connection to the past system. But reaction and counterreaction will eventually cause a genuine irreversible catastrophe and a re-formation.
I am purely theorizing. The slide to fascism started literally just as I became eligible to vote. It has continued with just a few plateaus but no real rollbacks for 45 years. But looking at history, you can only climb out on a limb away from the central trunk so far until the limb breaks. Then there is an unpredictable discontinuity when everything is freed to align with the new natural field of competing interests. The only certainty is a break from the past patterns -- the new "normal" will be alien to all sides before the break; it is a Becoming that is still invisible to us because we have old eyes. The current configuration is so wildly out of whack that it doesn't work for more than 90% of the population. That is unprecedented and not sustainable. There are no real stakeholders anymore, so the abused configuration has no interior strength to defend it. It is a formerly healthy tree reduced to a hollow trunk just waiting to be kicked in.
Then the new configuration will be alive for a while, and totally natural to those who come after us and always live inside it, and then eventually it will become obsolete, and on and on forever, because Hegel was wrong and MLK was full of shit and there is no arc of history towards justice, there's just Brownian motion probably driven by resource scarcity and entropy.
