119th congress: must be at least 75 to chair a committee!

House passes Trump's "big beautiful bill" after a marathon overnight session. Good bye parts of Medicare, Medicaid, ACA, and the whole of the entire solar industry.

3 million Americans are losing food assistance with this bill. 3 million.

Republicans "starve you fuckers", people "okay and we'll vote for you again".

I'm unimpressed, there should be more cuts if America is to learn its lesson. Somehow I bet there are creative carve-outs in the bill that protect entitlements for a majority of his voters.

That Berger post was lazy bullshit. Connolly was my rep. He was just a back bencher with no special abilities. He was compromised by donors and special interests. And AOC was right to take on the DNC business as usuals. She knew she couldn't win, but you can't just keep doing the same thing cycle upon cycle and expect change.

People are flailing. The Left didn't cause this problem. Centrists like Connolly had 40 years to fight the fasc and did nothing. All the ideas are stale and asphyxiating.

It is apparent that, as clueless as the Dems are, the crowd screaming at them is even more out of touch. You guys are among the best there are -- you aren't stupid and you are more wired into the real than 98% of the voters. When even you can fall for tripe like that, there really is no hope. The new will be a shock to us all. It's not coming from here.

I'm gonna step away. I believe we are on the cusp of something seismic that is going to finally break up our patterns that have been roughly the same since the end of WW1. I know I am not remotely prepared for what is coming and will probably hate it. Everybody I read or watch or talk to is, like me, still thinking in terms of mechanisms and aphorisms that stopped doing useful work a hundred years ago. That's normal. Our ideas always run well behind what is happening and our models of the future are always like Victorian interstellar space ships, with coal chutes and fireplaces. We are never up on things as they really are, and 99% of the time we don't need to be to function, because there is no crisis calling for immediate, radical remedy. But it is now like 1913, we are all feeling the cusp of the next war, and we are all feverishly debating whether it will be more like Austerlitz or Waterloo.

See you on the other side.
If you need a break, take one. We've all been there.

But the day I apologize for apparently not living up to the standards of some guy on a college hockey message board, will be the day we all find out the Last Judgement is real. ;)

Did the bill wind up making silencers easier to buy?

This bill is just another nail in the coffin of our country’s financial future. Neither party gives a ****.

From the sounds of it there are no carve outs...especially for the ACA or Medicare as that is part of PayGo...triggered by the bill itself. There is no recourse.

Legitimately...thanks Obama*.

(PayGo was a House Rule until 2010 but Obama and Pelosi wanted to look like they cared about the deficit so it was signed i to law if I read right)

I'm no nuclear scientist but I'm guessing if they nuked Gaza that would not go well for Israel on the radioactive front...

Also killer wasn't Palestinian so...
