119th congress: must be at least 75 to chair a committee!

It isn't positions, it's competency. If the Democrats are confident, strong, and fearless they can pass full on socialism and people will go along with it. Issues do not matter anymore, if they ever did.

Most people are amoral cowards who want to be on the side that is doing the hammering, right or wrong. They don't want to be morally spotless but ass-fucked.

Centrism has been the death of liberals for 50 years, now. Figure it the fuck out, people. Fight hard and loud and dirty for extreme principles. Promise the voters that on the first day we'll cap personal wealth at $10M and flat out take the rest, prevent anyone from wiring money out, and put all millionaires under house arrest while they are audited.

98.5% of voters have less than $10M.

I did say after 2024 that sitting out 2026 is likely going to be the solution to fixing the Dems. They haven’t learned a damn thing.
That’s the only thing worse than voting in these squishy centrist dems.

Every vote you vote for the leftmost candidate. That’s it.

Sitting out is a terrible idea. The reason the GOP runs scared except behind closed doors is because they have a legitimate primary threat. Sitting out an election is fucking dumb and will accomplish far, far less than a constant threat of being primaried.

I told you he took millions from Crypto...as did Slotkin. These people aren't Democrats.

Gallego hasn't been on the "side of good" since he got elected. Check out his voting record. The guy is a POS. He is Booker without the tan. (Booker also voted for it all but killing talk he is the frontrunner in '28)

Here's the thing about Gallego. I know insider stuff here because he is one of the Members Dr. Mrs. is willing to work for -- a number that is now countable on John Tester's hands. She is interviewing to be his privacy and immigration guru. (Crypto is another part of the shop; my wife can't spell it).

His staff are serious as a heart attack. They are committed, hyper-energetic, hyper-competent, aggressive, brilliant Lefties; exactly the type of people we wish were in DC. A candidate is a pretty hood ornament with little time to do anything but fundraise. It's a brand that sells good feewies to the derps to get the "she's too smart, I don't like her" experts into the room. When you vote for a candidate, the people who matter are their leg affairs and portfolio heads. Even a good* hands-on Member, say, Wyden, can only know 15% of what is going on in legislation, and primarily from the optics POV (because that's their role). For the substance, follow the best staff, and Gallego's staff is excellent. Gallego himself is a hair-do, just like Teddy Roosevelt and FDR and JFK and Bill Clinton and Obama. That in and of itself means nothing; it's the job.

* Exceptions: Liz Warren and Bernie actually know as much as their staffers, but they are a very different breed of cat.

Maybe twice in history we have seen massive legislative accomplishments that progressives view with pride — during the 30’s and during the 60’s. Both instances shared a common feature. A Dem in the WH and a substantial majority in Congress that lasted multiple sessions.

You guys are idiots for turning on anyone who wears the D after their name, regardless of who they voted to confirm or votes they held up in Congress. They are on your team and you need to do everything to re-elect them again and again as you try to pick off members of the other team.

You want your changes? Get to 65 senators and 300 house members, then we talk. Then the Joe Manchins of the world have to bow to you, not the other way around.

Ahhh, the old 'Republicans lecturing Democrats on what they should be doing" schtick.

Shouldn't you be over at Drew's fondling his gun collection?

The big mistake is the old people never bring someone younger up with them, and they never leave. Ginsburg, Gerry Connolly, Biden (who was supposed to bring in the next generation by stepping down). If we had a primary maybe we actually win. Instead it was a total shit show and a coronation of a black woman no one was going to vote for.

I just had my first major health scare of my life on Sunday. I am 57. I can assure you I knew I was mortal before and I sure as fuck know I am mortal now.

You guys are all hung up on whether someone is liberal enough. That's completely meaningless.

The only thing that matters is whether that person can get elected in that district. End of story. In a district in the heart of the Twin Cities, fine, Omar can be elected. But suggesting that you only support candidates like Omar is silly.

Get them elected. Get them re-elected. Build the numbers. Then it doesn't matter if someone isn't liberal enough for you. They have no control.

No, I'm all hung up on whether they are young enough to do the fucking job or not. Biden saved the party and then destroyed it on the way out cause I just could not hang it up.

If he has such a good staff then why is he voting the way he does.? Sorry but that dog wont hunt man. Brilliant Lefties aren't voting for the Laken Riley Act, the Crypto Bill and passing through Trump's nominations. Brilliant Lefties aren't supporting the idea of throwing Trans People under the bus either. If they are the poeple telling him how to vote they are exactly the type of people we dont want in DC.

No offense but Dr. Mrs. also thought Sinema was a good candidate once upon a time.

I’ll be honest. I think you’re right in a sense. I do think the primary is the most important election though. The general is clearly, despite the sneering, “vote blue no matter who”

We saw what happens when we have people sit out the general. We lost 6 million votes while the GOP gained 3 million. Obviously it’s more than just a 1:1 flip of “independents”.

People complain about the candidate in the general but primaries have a turnout something like a quarter (or less) than the general. So yeah, if people really want someone better, get your ass off the couch in the primaries. Make it a habit to vote every year even if there are just races for dogcatcher.

I’m actually with Handy on this. He could have the most brilliant staff on earth, be the smartest guy in government, and none of this matters if he votes like he does.

it’s bonkers to think anything else matters. They just voted to allow Trump to receive crypto bribes and several republicans defected! That’s not an honorable office! It should be derided and driven into a volcano.

kep, I understand you two have an insight probably none of us have. But it’s all for naught if you have a guy who allows Trump to receive bribes and votes in half his cabinet.

Gallego IS the problem. he’s as bad as klobuchar.

You think he waves to people at the airport tho?

I vote in every primary because I want to make sure Omar wins. Not sure who will challenge her this time though they have almost zero chance. I am glad someone does though because she has become better at her job every election because of those challenges.

The primaries are always the key...especially with the old incumbents. If they feel no pressure from the Left Flank they will drift further and further Right because they have no reason not to. Every race should have a challenge, not just because we don't like said candidate but to make sure they hear from all parts of their constituency, If it wasn't for stuff like that we never have AOC. They represent us and we need to make sure we hold them to that. they also need to know there is consequences when they go against the will of the people.

That is the problem with the Senate, guys like Gallego know they have many years until they have to campaign again so they feel safe. The more people feel safe the more their real self is shown. In the House, people like Pelosi don't like the idea because they never have to worry. David Hogg scares them because they want to hoard power and resources and he wants to force them to actually campaign and care about issues. Without him Nancy Pelosi can pretend taking a knee for George Floyd proves she cares about minorities.

Look, right now I say I won't vote for Craig if she gets the nom...but truth be told I will even if I hate it. (unless my vote is inconsequential) But I dont trust her because she is way too "we need to work with the other side" because of the district she is from. Maybe that will change in the Senate but I doubt it.
