Here in MA prior to the predicted surge in April, they set up these satellite (for lack of a better term) hospitals in a few places like the Boston Convention and Expo Center for patients that needed hospitalization but were not deemed critical. This was done to keep ICU beds open for those that needed them. They were able to close them all down but not before naysayers whined that the numbers were not that bad and OMG look at what they had to do, waste of money, this is all a hoax blah blah blah fishcakes.

Some of these areas where they're seeing these tremendous spikes should do the same, if they haven't already.

Fishcakes is now going to be my go-to word for Boston whining. It's perfect.

Even IF treatments have gotten better, and more people are surviving, at some point, if left unchecked, that's going to end up being moot to the people who can't find space in very full hospitals.

Exactly. Which is why the way many of these states are acting is just plain stupid.

Looks like the EU is making thr smart move and banning Americans when they open travel July 1. Sounds like they’re gonna reasses every two weeks but I see no timetable to want Americans in.

lots of Rich kids will really be missing their euro trips this summer

In theory, we have a trip planned for Sept. I'm pretty confident that at least half of it will be canceled- the cruise part. But the land part seems quite suspect based on the current trends in the US.

At least the EU is smart. Treat America like the third world shithole it's become.

Massachusetts currently has the lowest transmission rate in the country: https://www.boston25news.com/news/he...KAIEZRSCKEJ4I/

Kudos to Baker for how he has managed this all so far.

Of course there will be whiners, as the measures the state took will become a victim of their own success with some people pointing out how it hasn't been that bad (well yeah no shit, it wasn't worse because of all the measures we took).

Hopefully these numbers stay this way as the state begins to responsibly reopen.

The short answer is we have not made any major breakthroughs in treatment, it is still mostly supportive. The medications that have shown promise to reduce ICU time or hospitalization have a high number needed to treat (relatively) so they are by no means a panacea. But, ICU docs are getting incrementally better in the art of treating these patients so I would suspect the mortality may be slightly lower. As mentioned, all of that goes out the window if you run out of beds, equipment, or caretakers.

I have the strong suspicion that the lag from action to increase in death count is longer than reported, more on the order of 4-8 weeks in most situations. It takes a while to develop symptoms, even longer to be critically ill, and we are pretty good at keeping people alive even if they will eventually die.

Perfect time to have gathering of people not wearing masks in Arizona, especially one where they're packed in a line beforehand for hours.

Can we all agree to not post these until they are the final updates for the day? I think worldometers resets at 0000 GMT, how about some time after that.

They have even updated after that. They sometimes have a bit of a lag. But it is good to see how much things change over the course of the day because some of the states seem to release multiple times so they dont cause panic.
