He said many of the cases are tied to "bar-type settings" where people have been congregating since Memorial Day weekend.

"What we're seeing there is that people of that age group, they're not following these appropriate best health and safety practices," Abbott said in an interview this week with KLBK, a McAllen television station. "They're not wearing face masks. They're not sanitizing their hands. They're not maintaining the safe distancing practices. And as a result, they are contracting COVID-19 at a record pace in the state of Texas."

What did you expect? You opened up the bars. You can't drink while wearing a face mask. bars are by nature crowded, even if you attempt social distancing, you still end up pushing your way through people to get another drink, or go to the bathroom. Bartenders and servers can't social distance no matter how they try. Couple that with all the constant yammering about how young people don't really have to worry much about getting sick, and there ya go.

Any idiot with half a brain would understand all this before opening up the bars. But no, your fearless leader bellowed for you to open up, and like a whipped dog, you did as he commanded.

It's just another illustration that people can not be depended on to do the right thing. It's why governments step in, and why there are laws and regulations.

"We don't need to have the government telling us what to do. We have common sense, we can decide for ourselves"

Early on it should have been made clear that some things just aren’t going to open back up until cases are near zero or we have an effective vaccine or treatment. I have no issue with things like golf courses, retail businesses, and outdoor dining opening, but others like indoor dining, bars, offices, sporting events with fans, and schools have to wait.

I haven't followed the data in every state, but in Minnesota and North Dakota (where I've paid a little closer attention) younger people have always made up a big majority of the cases. People in their twenties and thirties have consistently lead the positive test numbers since April, iirc. Deaths, on the other hand, have disproportionately struck the older population, but just in terms of positive cases I don't that this is really anything new, at least around here.

Yeah I think it’s more around the south where it’s exploding

Well that would stand to reason since the majority arent dying from it. The difference is Minnesota and North Dakota are better at segregating if needed and social distancing. The nimrods in the South see it as a point of pride not to in this situation which is why they are getting huge numbers. And many of those places arent known for their great health care.

DeSantis blames COVID spike on 'overwhelmingly Hispanic' laborers

He pointed to cases in migrant camps, a watermelon farm and Immokalee, a major hub for tomato production, as evidence of the uptick.

But Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried argued that the majority of farmworkers left several weeks ago after harvests ended and that the real uptick is in non-agricultural areas, according to the Miami Herald.

In addition, Antonio Tovar, executive director of the Farmworker Association of Florida, said it’s not the farmworkers’ fault they are vulnerable to COVID-19.

He pointed the finger at DeSantis for ignoring pleas from a coalition of 50 groups that asked him for aid in late April.

“We sent this letter to the governor more than two months ago and now he is realizing that foreign workers are more suitable to get infected,” Tovar told the News Service of Florida on Wednesday. “That is very shameful because he was advised, he was told when we sent the letter.”

Tovar claimed the resources only came in May, after many in the southwest Florida farming community had already become ill.

“It is too little too late,” he said. “It was about two weeks ago when the department (of health) sent an email to a lot of organizations saying, ‘Hey! We received 2 million face masks. If you want we can give you face masks.’”

Florida clearly should have voted for the other guy, and I say that knowing full well he was found with plastic baggies of crystal meth in a Miami hotel room back in March.
