PWHL Rosters & Season

Natalie Spooner on LTIR with a knee injury. The Toronto curse spans both sexes.

Going to be interesting tonight and probably Friday.

After a shutout win in Boston, Minnesota returns to the Xcel Center for home games on Friday and Sunday. Could they lock up the trophy at home? Time will tell.

Minnesota with a 4 - 1 win over Boston. Could end it on Sunday. I have to say, pitting Heise, Zumwinkle, and Pannek against Hilary Knight and Hannah Brandt with their supporting cast of teammates, is just the best a Minnesotan could hope to see. I am not seeing a lot of other posters here. Everyone on vacation?

A statement win in St. Paul last night. Heise with a goal in the first minute, and no letup from there. Women's hockey at its best! Many people gave up on Minnesota after the winless streak. The team they were before the break is clearly back, with something to prove. Sunday should be a barnburner, with everything on the line for Boston.

The PWHL has announced that the 2024 draft will be on Monday June 10 at 6PM CT in Saint Paul. The PWHL Awards will be presented the next day at 12:30PM CT. It seems apt that Minnesota's first-overall draft pick Heise is also currently the leading scorer in the playoffs.

The league also announced the full draft eligibility list today. There are 167 players who declared for the draft, mostly players who have recently graduated from college and/or played a year or two outside North America. Some outliers, though, include veterans Alena Mills and Noora Raty. The teams will go through 7 draft rounds; so, most of the players who declared will go undrafted.

I wanted to add to this that various players from European leagues, especially the SDHL, have declared. In some cases their already being on contracts this past season meant they couldn't enter the previous draft.

Game 4 of the PWHL Finals is heading to OT, tied 0-0 in Minnesota! It has been an exciting game. Minnesota leads the series 2-1 over Boston.

Boston takes game 4 in 2OT, on a goal by Alina Muller!
Minnesota had a goal called back for goaltender interference by Taylor Heise, with a shot by Sophie Jaques, a couple minutes before that.

Winner-take-all game 5 will be on Wednesday at 7PM ET in Boston.

What a turn of events at the end.

It was the right call, though.

In a better world, the right call would have been made live. As it actually played out, the long delay + the reversal gave Boston a huge emotional lift, and was a devastating emotional let-down for the Minnesota club. Had the goal been immediately disallowed, the emotional impact would have been far less on both sides.

The issue goes beyond tonight's game. I've seen this sort of emotional roller-coaster play out in other hockey games, and in other sports. Of course everyone wants the officials to "get it right" as the first priority. And I don't have a specific fix in mind. But again in that better world, the process alone shouldn't have such an out-sized impact on a game.

Minnesota wins the Finals - they take the series with a 3-0 win over Boston in game 5. Captain Kendall Coyne Schofield has hoisted the first Walter Cup!

Coyne doesn’t drink alcohol so I’m glad she got to put her child in the cup instead, before the partying started. :-)

Just fantastic that women’s hockey has a seat at the table in this incredible year for women’s sports. Thanks for all the updates you’ve done here bowwow!
