I dunno... FL, TX, and others in the South keep saying "Hold my beer..." with this whole COVID thing....

Not a lot of hockey there.

I'm sure NCAA FOOTBAW is gonna give it a try. (1) It's the South, they're morons; (2) it's footbaw, they're morons even for the South; (3) $$$.

But we don't have any of that Goofus crap. So it will happen this way. Hahvahd will realize it's going to be another year of their blue chips underachieving so they will quit. The Ivies have to do everything Hahvahd does so we will quit. Atlantic will mini-me us. BC will pretend it has integrity and pull out, killing HE, and then the rest will collapse.

The MAC cancelled their season.

Oh and Penn State told their season ticket holders they will not refund their donation for seats. That should bring about a lawsuit...

Edit: Maryland apparently has 6 players opting out and Michigan State just lost another player.

Big Ten presidents met this morning and have instituted helmet only practices until further notice.

Uh. You can’t not refund because “reasons”

Penn State would get absolutely Sanduskyed in court if they don’t back off.

Not necessarily...the fee is classified as a "donation". A donation is only classified as such if there is nothing tangible to be gained from it. The donation itself doesnt get you any tickets (just the opportunity to buy them) so technically speaking there is nothing being lost.

They will reverse course on this if the PR gets bad...but I doubt a court finds against them.

Ahhhhhh. My mistake. I thought it was the actual ticket prices. I suppose donations would be different. Either way, if Minnesota tried to pull that shit I’d tell them to get fucked. I’m guessing a lot of Minnesotans would do the same. We’re not a cult.

Back when hockey had a waiting list (like apparently Pedo State does for football) I bet you are wrong. The attitude was very different then.

My football refund is being processed. If it does not include my donation I will wage war on them

luckily we’re not in the donation area. I need to touch base with the buddy I have tickets with.

I’ll be very curious what happens with this. We’ve seen the legislature force the U’s hand before on athletics.

Don’t disagree.

Not exactly shocking...the University of Colorado has had racial issues for years (even when they were winning titles) so why wouldnt CSU? Lots of Derp in that state...

(if true...players are disputing some of the claims)

Wouldn't the ability to buy tickets be the tangible benefit though? Obviously it's something that is high demand, which is exactly why the university has required it.

New theory I've seen being spouted is that these cancellations are the fault of football writers who have been "rooting" for the season to be canceled.

1) Not entirely sure why writers who lost out on spring ball and have resorted to a lifetime's worth of "best slot receivers of the 1995 SEC East" articles the last five months would root to get rid of what provides their profession.

2) There have been plenty of examples of programs pulling writers access the last couple years because they were unhappy with a story that was written about the team. Highly doubt these conferences are suddenly scared of what may be written about them if they continue to play.

The hoax goes deep!

I have seen that argued both ways. As of now I would assume they have looked into it enough to figure the odds are in they favor but that is above my pay grade :-)

Pat Forde probably talked to someone in the Big Ten.

Reports are coming out that the Big Ten is ready to cancel football entirely this year.
