Climate Change 3: Whatever you do don't call it a twatwaffle

The only problem I have with this is that when a major hurricane wipes out a swath of Florida, there is gonna be a MAJOR temper-tantrum looking for a government bailout...

That's a good way to lose a good chunk of blue votes. (Can we officially write off FL from Congress and the EC?)

Well, since DeSantis already drove away all the migrants, there won't even be enough construction workers left to rebuild anything, so I guess they'll all have to move or live in the squalid ruins.

I have no problem with that happening... I just think that it can be the last straw that makes FL a 94/6 split in favor of R's.

So like 16 companies have stopped writing policies in Florida. And Ron passed a law making it harder to get claims paid out

the feds can’t bail them out of messes because it’s insane to keep building in areas that will keep getting hit- Munich Re has been clear on this.

but people are lazy and will whine while still voting R

I don't disagree about letting people that build in disaster prone areas fend for themselves.

But what I do have to consider is how the story will play out to the rest of the country. Think about how Bush II was raked over the coals for his ignorance of Katrina and the lack of government response.

"HE LET AMERICANS SUFFER FROM A DISASTER!" type of headlines will be plastered everywhere. And yea, the people of FL deserve that. But what are the downstream effects of that in Purple areas like NC, WI, PA, or GA?

That's what has me concerned. Not so much the people of FL, but moreso the long term PR problem it creates.

Florida also has major issues with insurance fraud and bogus claims, which is likely more to do with this than climate change.

I think that is overblown. It posits that people in Purple States that are either Left or Center are too lazy or stupid to know why Flo(R)ida is getting what they get and then somehow blames the Dems for it.

Look, lets be realistic, there is no universe where Biden or any Dem doesn't give them disaster relief...we aren't pricks who settle scores that way. I mean, he sent money to Colonel Governor Sanders for the tornadoes literally within a week of her saying the Federal Government is trash and they don't need its socialist money! And lets also be realistic, there is no amount of relief Biden or any Dem could give that will flip Flo(R)ida even Purple as long as The Villages and large swaths of Cubanos exist there. There is a better chance that The Branch Flo(R)idians turn on Ron or any GOPer for taking money from the Dems than anything else.

I mean if they wanna take it from military budget cool, but it’s gonna get real unaffordable and blue state people shouldn’t have to continually subsidize areas that literally cannot be insured . I’m not talking about “oh we had a draught for a year so let’s help the farmers” subsidy.

It doesn't matter, what should happen and what will happen are two different things. Even putting aside that 40% of Flo(R)ida is not Republicans the fact is the Federal Government exists in part to protect the States and no Democrat is going to abdicate that no matter how much they have the right to do so. The smart subsidize the stupid that is just the way society works. Just like the Twin Cities subsidize Outstate even as they spit in our face.

Honestly, the only way that wouldn't happen was if somehow the GOP got full control of the government and passed a law that said States have to fend for themselves. All those "No Income Tax" State would be completely screwed then. But no Democrat and especially no Liberal, is ever going to be like that. They will just spend more money we dont have.

Just five years out of 120 where hurricanes formed in June/July in the East Caribbean. And now three in the last four years.

A. It didn't form in the eastern Caribbean, it was forecast to be a hurricane when it reached the eastern Caribbean, which leads to...
B. It's no longer forecast to be a hurricane when it reaches the eastern Caribbean.
