RPI 2022 Off-season: Surely, We Deserve Better

Today is 25 June 2022. There are 98 days (14 weeks) until RPI's next game. There are 6 days until RPI has a new president.

This is based upon 1 October 2022 for the start of next season and 1 July 2022 for the end of @#$%^.

Three days until RPI has a new president. Unfortunately, not one that can realistically hit the ground running without being preoccupied with quality of life issues. As of 4 P.M. Tuesday you know who is still occupying the presidents' residence I have to drive by to visit deceased family members at a cemetery within sight of the mansion. Tip off is the law enforcement vehicle parked inside the gate with the armed guy inside. It's still there.

One would think that pathetic sorry excuse that place has for a Board of Directors (and don't forget the supposed trustees) could at least carry out their fiduciary responsibilities of oversight and control and see to it that a residence that goes with the presidents' position is available for occupancy a couple of stinking days before the start date. Having seven months to accomplish that from the hire date is apparently not enough for these cadavers. They had even longer to step in before the institution they are bound to protect had their debt service reduced to virtual junk bond status. Again, nowhere to be found. Who knows if the kings' ransom the board allowed to be spent over multiple decades for round the clock domestics galore, a herd of personal assistants, drivers and armed security contributed to that financial rating.

At the most basic level imaginable, this board could or would not even step in last fall when their institution became the only remaining one out of approximately 850 football playing institutions in the US to not allow players families or fans to attend yet the stadiums' presidential suite and reception area was occupied with too numerous to count guests of the president. A number of the guests were clearly seen carrying plates piled with food they got from a buffet setup as reported by numerous onlookers from a hillside outside the stadium, on social media and even from some area newsprint outlets. Also note that during that timeframe buffets were banned by Executive Order from the Governor's Office. Yep, not even a crystal clear violation of an Executive Order appearing on both public platforms and newsprint could get this dummy board to act.

Always was under the impression that presidents served at the pleasure of the board and not the other way around. And then there is this place. Board stands on sidelines either cowering from and/or providing the compliant and complicit applause to whatever someone they were supposed to be overseeing did.

All the above askes just one basic question. Is there any way of being absolutely sure that the one departing is the really the problem or just a sliver of it, a result of it or a side effect of the real problem? If it's any of the latter then the real problem is not going anywhere and who knows if ANY new president is going to be able to get a whole lot done.

With only two days left for the new RPI Independence Day, your post has me starting to reread the Emancipation Proclamation. Change as you say may well be gradual, but I am holding onto the hope that change will indeed occur.

You make a great point about the board.
I have some questions.
Are the board members elected or appointed?
If elected, who get a vote?
Is there a term limit for board members?

The answer to these questions will tell you how long it will take for the new president to make the changes that you are looking for.

I would avoid using the broad brush. It should be noted that one of the trustees was credited by Howard Deutsch for bringing the poor campus climate issues to his attention, urging he do an employee survey which upon completion, laid bare the wreckage caused under SAJ's tenure. I am optimistic that the new leader is WELL aware if the issues he faces and will have a game plan to hit the ground running.
