Today is 27 April 2022. There are 157 days until RPI's next game. There are 65 days until RPI has a new president.

This is based upon 1 October 2022 for the start of next season and 1 July 2022 for the end of @#$%^.

Linden's home in Virginia may be closer to Happy Valley than to the Collar City, but I don't think he's aware of how much focus the Penn State network, of which he seems so enamored, places upon the Nittany Lion hockey team.

Basically, none. The Penn State network is about football, football, football, football, football, football, and football. Maybe during the basketball season there might be an occasional article about hoops. Hockey - never.

One can see that by home much interest there is on this board from PSU fans.

Of Ice & Ivy (#5): Discussing Coach Dave Smith and RPI
Spending a little time logically thinking through the lack of a contract extension announcement for RPI's head coach Dave Smith.

Yes, PSU is a football school and no other sport will escape that shadow, but there appears to be strong support for ice hockey in terms of in-person attendance, at least relative to other schools.

Would have loved to see the senior group stay for one more go, but I think that was always a bit of wishful thinking; these guys did enough to come back at all after losing an entire season of games and practice.

Ture's interview showed a lot of class--I sensed some of the answers may have been diplomatic.

The TU reporter is a basketball guy, so some of the more technical hockey follow-up questions were missed, e.g., where Ture might fit on the depth chart there and whether he will need to adjust to a different role and system. He was the go-to guy at RPI: first-line, #1 power-play etc. These adjustments can be tough to make in a transfer season. I sincerely hope he does really well! Except against the Gophers ;-)

They have a beautiful twin sheet hockey facility and average well north of 5,000 for their home games. Add in the fact that his PARENTS and even gasp....SCOUTS will be allowed to enter the building, I have no doubt it was an easy decision for Ture to make. I wish him the best of luck, he's a class act.

Coach Dave Smith @RPI_HockeyCoach Great to spend some time with one of the best all-time ⁦@RPI_Hockey⁩ players. ⁦@DarenPuppa was 15 years in the ⁦@NHL ⁩after winning ⁦@NCAAIceHockey⁩ Championship. https://eliteprospects.com/player/68482/daren-puppa

Interesting. I read that the NCAA is removing the limit on the number of AC's. Could we be ...?

Nice. The ACHA conference ran through 4/23 in Naples. Smitty connecting with Puppa who I believe still resides in the Tampa area. Nice work Smitty !

Always good to see the coach with players from our past. Especially the ones who won a national championship.
Why isn't there a flag with Puppa's name on it in the rafters at HFH?

I am not positive, but I think that one requirement for a player being on the Ring of Honor is graduating from RPI. IIRC Puppa eventually received a degree from Denver. I add that Oates did eventually receive an RPI degree.

I am not 100% positive either. However, believe graduation is required for the school's athletic Hall of Fame but not for the Fieldhouse Ring of Honor. Carter has a banner in the Fieldhouse despite never graduating, at least according to what most people believe to be the case.

Most likely reason for Puppa being omitted is only playing here for two years.

I forgot about Carter. So I am probably wrong about needing to graduate from RPI.

While he only played at RPI for two years, how many other RPI goalies won a national championship and played 15 years in the NHL?
I think that he should qualify on those stats. JMO
